re: can you eat subway when pregnant?

I eat it. They just say to microwave lunchmeat before eating it, so have your subs toasted.

I eat turkey subs all the time and one of my biggest craving has been rolled up turkey and pepper jack cheese dipped in green onion dip.. Sounds gross I know. lol

Warm lunch meat makes me gag so there is no way I could eat it hot!

Quoting mamacj:“ Technically, no. Unless the lunchmeat is cooked before eating, you are supposed to stay away from it. ... [snip!] ... else you eat too, though some things are more prone to carry it than others (like meat, cheeses, and products with raw eggs).”

Sorry mamac but Toxoplasmosis is found in cat feces not food. It should not be in food unless your cat is rubbing its arse all over your bologne. Listeria can be found in lunch meat but that is if the meat is not being properly prepared and stored. It is not that common to have a listeria problem in the US.

I work in clinical labs.....and I've been eating subway, hotdogs and all that because those are the few meats that don't come back up. I'm not worried about it at all.

Turkey/bacon with avacado all day long...........

You can get toxo from food...not just from cat feces. Here's a link from the CDC:

ETA- here's the link (also from CDC) specifying how it is transmitted:

It is only found in food that is not processed properly.....the reason......because it can be contaminated with feces.............however in the US food processing is highly regulated and listeria is not something that you will commonly have a problem with. The CDC says many things. It is their job to protect the public and one way they do that is create unnecessary fear because people are more likely to react in the "appropriate" way when they are afraid of what they don't fully understand. I am a clinical scientist so I know well how the CDC and other agencies operate.........I've also studied parasitology. There is littel to fear in eating a subway sandwich but a doctor is of course going to tell you not to eat deli meat if there is any chance of harm at all. The reason we get the over kill with info alerting us to things that could possibly kill or damage us? It is because doctors are frequently sued..........they have to cover their asses.

If any one of these women reported to their doctors during their nutritional appointment that they ate a ham sandwich that day...........I am willing to bet the doctor would say nothing. That is how critical not eating deli meat is. They will warn you of the risk, but have NO concern if you actually eat some. That should tell you that the risk is low

I always get the meatball sub when I have subway. But as long as the deli meat is cooked (IE....grilled ham and cheese) you should be ok.
