Feeding question

posted 3rd Oct
My son is 3 weeks old and he wants to feed every hour! I've been breastfeeding and giving him formula because I am not producing enough milk to feed him as much as he wants AND still have enough left to pump. I've even started to give him 6 ozs in his bottle, but he still wakes up after an hour.
Is this normal?
should I start putting cereal in his bottles or is he too young still?

way too young to even be eating six oz I think my son wasn't doing that till he was much older. Try doing something else they don't ushally wake just for food at least my son did try playing with him a bit or just rocking him and singing.

NEVER put cereal in a bottle! 4 months is the youngest you should give cereal, unless for medical reasons, and off a spoon.

they hit their first growth spurt around 3-4 weeks...it's normal. Tiring, exhausting, overwhelming...but normal. Lorelai nursed every hour-hour and a half at that age, and by the time Ichanged diapers, and got her down to bed I had NO sleep. It'll pass.

his doctor told me to. he was eating 4 ozs in the hospital right after he was born. he never drank just 2.
I do try other things. But he'll scream and scream and start rooting until he gets fed

Why can't you mix cereal with their formula? I've heard a ton of people say they did it

Because they could choke. Not to mention you're force feeding them.

Well obviously even if I put the cereal in his bottle I wouldn't put enough in their for it to choke him. I wouldve only put enough to fill him more. But Thanks for telling me that. I didn't know. Everyone was telling me to put the cereal in his bottle.

They can choke on ANYTHING thicker then regular formula. Mommies that do it, have babies with bad AR. The benefits outweigh the risks in thsoe cases.

FYI, stop giving him the Formula and nurse him everytime he wants to..It will boost your supply...When babies go through growth spurts all they want to do is eat, it doesn't mean you aren't making enough milk!

...yes..
that's why i do it...
it just thickens up the formula so that she won't spit up as much...
