really stupid question

do magnets hurt burnt CDs? like if i put a magnet on top of a burnt CD, will it hurt the data?

i'm old and remember always being told never to let magnets near your floppy disks because it can hurt the data. so im wondering if it's true about burnt cds? i don't think it is, but i wanted to be sure.

I have no idea but I believe the materials used are differnt

and it had something to do with mercury in the film or something...

I know you can destroy a harddrive with a big enough magnet........ no idea about CDs though.

the reason why i ask is because i just got some marketing magnets for my photography business and im wondering if i can slip them in the cd sleeve when i give clients their photo cds. i don't want to put the magnet in there and ruin their cds.

CDs aren't affected by magnets, only floppy discs, and if you have a powerful enough magnet, a hard drive. Don't worry, and feel free to put one in the sleeve.
