Hand Sanitizer

So about 30 minutes ago my daughter ate about a nickel size amount of hand sanitizer. She's acting completely the same none of this lethargic actions at all. I called poison control of course right away and they said she'll be fine just wipe her mouth with a wet wipe and give her a little milk. That she would be completely fine. So is their truth to the 3 pumps are lethal to toddlers?

i never heard about that before?

I don't know the exact amount that causes alcohol poisoning but the amount you described is very small

My daughter licked /sucked on a hand sanitizer wipe. When I called PC, they said due to the small amounts of alcohol in antibacterial products, that I should give her something sweet to drink to make sure her blood sugar was fine, as the alcohol can lower their blood sugar. They told me it was not to worry since it was just a small amount and that she would be just fine (she was/is just fine).

Not that I would go around letting kids lick hand sanitizer (she dug this out of my bag AS I was holding her when this happened), but I'm not so sure about that story. Seems extreme. At the same time, you never know-- which is why I have PC on speed dial...

I keep their number in my contacts. But they said she would be fine. My daughter seems to get into everything.

So does mine. She is fast too...i have to watch her like a hawk. She also likes to lick soap if she is washing her hands, and lick her arm after I put baby lotion on her. Gross, I don't get the licking thing.

And when I said that story seems extreme, I meant the 3 pumps story (not YOUR story!).

I was really curious about this, as I've been through the same type of situation with Isla ingesting a small amount of hand-sanitizer. Poison control said basically the same thing everyone else is saying, and that it would be possible for her to become intoxicated if she had ingested more than a tiny amount as hand sanitizer is comparable to vodka in it's alcohol content. I think 2 oz. is like 4 shots of vodka. As for the three squirts thing, from the research I've done on it, it's a bit conflicting. One source with poison control says 1-2 oz. could potentially be fatal in toddlers, and other sources say it would take much more. So, needless to say, we just don't use hand sanitizer anymore.
