It is kinda offensive, I hear that all the time too. But what others don't understand is that my husband & I waited 7yrs to concieve. Then we finally got pregnant and I went into preterm labor. I felt robbed that I didn't get to be pregnant for the entire time, not only for myself but for the well being of my son. Unfortunately some people are ignorant and insensitve to others, and if you have never been through having a preemie then you probably wouldn't understand. I agree with you, it is offensive and extremely insensitive. Your husband should ask this person next time if they would have rathered switched places with you. (she have the preemie and she how she would feel)
I am hoping that with this baby (#2 due in June!! ) that i go over my due date!! I want to get fat and uncomfortable!! LOL and i won't complain abit.
I hope this girl doesn't say anything else stupid to show her ignorance.

I would never DREAM of saying anything like that to my best friend. Her first was born at 35 weeks, her second at 30... and he was recently diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy from his lack of development in the womb. I was 9 days late and I would have to be out of my right mind to try and say that MY extra few weeks of back pain and constant peeing could even compare to what she has been through.... let alone call her lucky!!

My baby sister was born at 31 weeks and I've seen the heartache and years of medical problems that can stem from that... but even had I not experienced that first hand, I am not so ignorant as to make such a statement. I wonder how often people really exercise their capacity for consideration...
