Crib Death just with cribs..

posted 23rd Sep
Okay.. wasn't forsure where to post this,.. and it's too late for me to try and figure out.. but I need some insite or something ladies..

Okay so there's this girl at my work.. she has a four year old, and is due with another in Decemeber..
Well at work I was talking to her, about getting rid of some of my stuff,, and I mentioned to her a website, where I got my crib, (from a person who didn't need it anymore) Well she very strongly, says.. I'm not going to use a crib, because of crib death.. I thought about if for awhile, and then realised, that she thinks that babies only die from sids in a crib. Maybe shes just severly uneducated about it, or just really strongly thinks that, thats the only time it happens, is when a baby sleeps in a crib. So later I asked her, so you didnt use a crib with you're four year old? And she says nope not at all..

I'm / was a co-sleeper in the AM. But my daughter also uses a crib, I believe that no matter what a baby should have a crib, even if they dont use it..
(So I don't want any drama about co-sleeping. )

But I want some insight, How do I tell her that babies don't just die from Sids in a crib, and that at certain times it's actually more dangerous for them to sleep in bed, eg.(When the parent has been drinking, or is seriously tired)
without sounding like a know-it-all.. she just started working there, and I don't want her to dislike me right of the bat..

Umm she really needs to educate herself on many issues before breeding-really.You are correct, and she is ignorant.

Thank you,
I just really don't want to be mean to her..
And I'm a very opinionated woman.. And I have a feeling that if I start a convo. with her about it, it might end badly.. because she's a few years older than me, and her daughter is four and mines not even one yet.. so she already thinks she's smarter than me.. she's just got that way about her..

But I also don't feel like I should just keep my mouth shut..
I'm totally torn :s

Go to the local WIC office and pick up the pamphlets they have on SIDS. It will give her a brief explanation of it, and refer her to some websites.
Just say you came across this, and it shocked you so much that you wanted to share it with her, since she's expecting.

maybe try and get a printout or something with the correct info on it and just hand it to her and walk away-you know all passive aggressive-like,lol.But the good thing is that as long as she is that paranoid perhaps she will follow every rule regardless whether the babe is in a bed or a crib.I don't think the not having a crib is an issue, just the blatant ignorance.

I was thinking about that too.. and like the idea you have about telling her I ran across them.. because I didn't want her to think that I'm like obsessing about it. It seemed like she thought that she knew sooo much about it, when really she doesn't and I don't want her to think that I'm trying to prove her wrong.. I just think that it's really important that she knows.. If that makes sense?

I agree. She's uninformed about SIDS. Of course, she may also think SIDS is different from crib death as well. I've met women who didn't know they were the same thing.

Honestly, I think you are a little too worried about it.

She's having her child, not yours.

I don't think she needs any explanation. She is choosing to co sleep and if she finds a crib unnecessary I don't think a pamphlet is going to change her mind. My child had a crib that we barely used and I think if we decide to have another baby I won't have a crib for the new baby.

We haven't bought one for this one either. We have a pack n play for our bedroom. Lilian didn't use her crib till she was 16 months. Why waste the money and fret over it if this baby won't be needing it?

God, saying she shouldn't breed? Don't you think that's a little excessive?

We don't have a crib either, and my son wouldn't use it if we did. He either co-sleeps with us, naps in his pnp, or naps in his swing. A crib is unnecessary for us at this time. And may never be needed.
