prison inmate visits

posted 22nd Sep '09
this past weekend I went to stay with some friends in Bridgeport and we decided to go visit a friend that is currently in prison for residential burglary and serving 6 years for it. my dad found out about it and got pissed off and told me the next time I take MY SON to a prison to visit an inmate he's turning me into DCFS and reporting me for endangerment of a child..WTF?? the guy I went and seen is an old ex of mine and he's been wanting to meet my son every since I had him so I finally went up and seen him. can he (my dad) really do that? Since when is taking a 4 week old baby to a prison endangering him? there was another lady up there visiting an inmate and the baby girl wasn't maybe 2 weeks old..I'm just so stressed out right now!! I plan on going back up and visiting my ex on the 17th but I was wondering what precautions should I take while there with my baby?

I personally wouldnt take my child. No matter how old or young the baby is. You never know what could happen. I would find a sitter.

Why are you bring your baby to see an ex.  That's kind of weird.

I wouldn't take my child. I'd get a baby sitter.

My BIL is in prison and I take my oldest to see him but I would not take my newborn because all of the germs and they are more prone to catch sicknesses since they dont have a high immune system yet. But its not endagerment at all, they have tons of security gaurds in there.

Well they wont take your kid away for visiting someone in a guarded room, but if it were me I would've gotten a babysitter, and if I couldn't, I wouldn't have gone.

I don't think a prison is the best place to take a baby. Especially since he's not the baby's father or anything, I don't think that your dad can turn you in for it, but I would definately get a babysitter. Send him pics.

4 weeks old? That's pushing it to take the child in public anyways. There's a reason they tell you to wait 6 weeks.
Do you know what happens in prisons and jails? That was a dumb decision on your part. You should have got a babysitter.

Its smurfing stupid IMO.

I wouldn't take my 4 week old to a prison unless MAYBE it was to go see it's father or something under certain circumstances.

OP have your dad watch the baby next time.

I dont think it could be considered endangerment of your child. And I don't believe your father could take any action in the matter. Taking your child into an atmosphere like that is a personal decision. Personally, I don't believe I would so. However, to each their own. I think if it were an ex I was going to see I would have someone sit for my child, as he has no need to visit with my ex. And I also wouldn't be making visits with an ex in jail habitual... as a person in jail likely would not make a good role model for my child and I wouldn't want to fall back into a positioin where I would "talk" to that person again. That's just me.

It's not endangerment, when my brother was in jail social services brought his son to see him once a week. But I never took my son to go visit him and I would never bring my child into a jail to see someone but to each there own. Id get a baby sitter if your going to go see him again.

I brought my daughter to see her dad when she was 3 weeks old. Just make sure you use some hand sanitizer before touching the baby after touching anything in the prison. My daughter did fine and didn't get sick from the visit.

I've been questioning wether or not I should take my daughter to see her father after she's born. I'm scared to death of an inmate going crazy or her getting some sort of disease or something. . .I was thinking about waiting until she was like 6 weeks old or more before I do anything I just feel like his mom is pressuring me to be bring her because SHE WANTS HER SON to see his daughter. . .well it's not my fault that he went to prison and as much as I do want him to see her I'm equally as scared. =/ Can you bring hand sanitizer in the see-through diaper bag you're entitled to?
