You can as soon as you want to.
Why do you not want your husband in there?

The nurses at my hospital made me take one an hour after the Dr. left. They pretty much forced me out of bed but I'm glad they did, especially because of all the body fluid (from your water breaking, blood, etc.)and sweating you do /have during labor.

I took a shower as soon as I could walk to the bathroom. The nurses understand you want to get cleaned up after childbirth.. No matter how well they wipe you off afterwards. All the hospitals I delivered in had a seat in the shower anyway. It was maybe and hour or two after delivery before I got to shower off.

I have a feeling this "game plan" will change once you are in labor and have your baby.

I had a vaginal delivery and didn't shower until the day I was discharged which wasn't quite 48 hours later.

They won't whisk the baby away for a few hours right after it's born. They'll want you to try to BF it, and bond with it a little.
