Of Course I am going to ask

My pediatrician first, but wanted to see what you guys think,,,
My daughter is only 3 weeks old...shes a preemie...weighing in @ 5lbs 14oz...
Now, she WILL cry when shes hungry...at the 6am feedings,9am feedings,12 am feedings...but not so much the 3am feeding...she will sleep right through it if I didnt wake her up...and when I do wake her up to eat,she will only drink 1oz compared to the 3oz she drinks during the day.....
Like I said, I will ask the doctor before doing anything, but IYO..do you think this means shes ready to sleep through the night?...My son slept through the night at 4 weeks, but he wasnt a preemie, so I dont know of this matters.

My pedi told me to wake my son up to eat.

Dont wake her up, babies KNOW when they are hungry & let it be known by crying. So if she does not wake up, she is most likely not hungry

I would wake her up, my pedi told me not to let my LO go longer then 4 hours with out eating when she was that little. Plus i would imagine with a preemie you'd want to.

my son does the same thing,
hes almost 6 weeks.
idk how to get him on a good schedule becuase he likes sleep more that eating. and he will not eat if he doesn't want to
so i just let him wake up on his own when hes good and hungry becuase if i wake him and try to make him eat he spits up and gets a gassy tummy. but we've also had some issues with colic.

My kids both slept through the night at a very early age. Even though my pediatrician told me to wake them up, I never did. I figured they wouldn't starve if they missed one meal.
But a preemie? I probably would try to get them to take something in the middle of the night.

I was told to wake her up if she ever went 5 hours. But mine wasnt premature, so I would just keep on and go by what your doctor tells you at your next appointment.
(I quit waking my daughter up to eat when she was 4 weeks old.)

You and your pedi are really the only ones who knows what's best for your baby.

i would think the same thing. have you ever tried to let her sleep and see if she wakes up maybe like an hour later on her own?

Is she gaining steadily? If so, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Like the other person said, you and your pedi know best, but as a mom to a preemie, we fed on demand and still do. We have a rough schedule that we adjust to fit his needs, but for the most part, when he's hungry we feed him and if he wants to sleep, we let him. We didn't have the problem with him sleeping through feedings though. Is she cluster feeding before she goes down for the night?

i haven't tried yet, mainly for the fear of her waking up at 4 or 5, and then throwing her whole schedule off..b.c shes doing great with the schedule she has now(feeding every 3 hrs)..but @the same time, I would love my sleep!LOL....and yes she is gaining weight pretty good...so..

Both of my daughters were sleeping through the night by 2 weeks. My pedi told me it was up to me if I wake them or not for the night time feedings. I fed them most of the time, but sometimes I would let them sleep. I never had a problem with them going back to sleep when I woke them for their feedings though.
