trisomy 18 diagnosis

posted 13th Sep '09
Does anyone know ANYONE who had a fetus diagnosed with trisomy 18?

We recently have and with the extent of the birth defects we have chosen to induce labor, as we have less than 90+% chance of the baby surviving without the help of me, his mother. We are inducing me starting tomorrow, and the next day I will be admitted to the hospital to deliver our boy so we can hold and say goodbye to him.

Anyone out there that can relate to this? It would help to know if there was someone who can understand how we feel..

I do not but I am so sorry. So his chances of NOT surviving after birth are 90+?

Found this on Wikipedia:

bout 95% die in utero. Of liveborn infants, only 50% live to 2 months, and only 5–10% will survive their first year of life.

My sister was diagnosed. She has an account, let me see if I can get her to log on. I know quite a bit about the situation since I was by her side as she's my best friend as well. Our little Aiden was born at 37wks still born. We believe he died in utero that morning. She found out the diagnosis early on, around 17 wks I think. She chose to carry him as long as she could so she could give him the best life possible why he still had one.
