traveling with a month old babies??

posted 12th Sep
Okay so im planning a trip to see my sister but my twins are only a month old and they only have their HEP B shot..They get their shots in october and our trip is next week..we'll be driving to LA from San Francisco which is aprox. 400 miles and so we'll all be in a car for about 6 hours and we'll be there just for2 days..My main concern is the twins going out not having their shots..what are you thoughts on this? do you think it will be okay? thanks for all the comments in advance!

Im pretty sure some hospitals give the newborns their first shots, but it all up to the parent if you want the twins to have it that same day as their birth day to get their first shots. But in my opinion its better that they get their shots first before traveling, better be safe than sorry. besides theres h1n1, flu going around nowadays.

well you have already taken them out for one. They will be fine but your trip may take longer then 6 hours for feeding and diaper changes.

lol sorry but your post doesnt make much sense.

plenty of people dont vaccinate their children AT ALL and they are fine. Its not like you're taking your kids to a third world country. I wouldnt worry AT ALL. Enjoy your trip! Keep them out of very public places if you're concerned with H1N1. (you'll have the same problem at home with h1n1 as you do on the road)

I know its not the same but when my son got out of the nicu at 2 1/2 months, we were staying with in laws but we had to take him out to get some things taken care of, and then we had to drive 2 1/2 hours to our home. He was fine, but they did give him his 2 mth shots in the hospital.

Even once they have their shots they won't be fully vaxed till age 2 I believe, you can't live in a bubble till then. I don't vaccinate my daughter, I did some research about them and I truly believe the risks out weigh any benefits. Make sure you wash your hands a TON, don't let anyone touch her or cough on her, etc. COMMON SENSE. And to the poster who said about swine flu, you cannot get a newborn vaxed for that , they can't even have the regular flu shot till 6 months which *I* advise highly AGAINST because it contains high amounts of thermisol (mercury)
