Exclusivley Pumping Questions

posted 11th Sep
my son is 11 days old today and I have been exclusivley pumping since he was about a week old. Things have gone good and I am getting about4 ounces perbreast every four hours including at night. I am pumping both breast every four hours for a total of 8 onces per session. Sometimes I go over the four hours to 5 tho (not often!) and wanted to as if this would hurt my supply? Am I pumping enough milk and is every four to 5 hours too far apart? I havent had any issues at all I just know he is going to be eating more than the 4 oz bottles he has now soon and I want to make sure I can Keep up! Is 8 ounces typical or too little? How can I increase my supply if too little and if the answer to that is to pump more often how often do you suggest?Let me know what you think please! Any tips? Thanks. haha Lots of questions there!!

I thought I read every two hours was more what you'd have to pump. But I don't pump so I'm unsure. To get 8 ounces is good I think, I can hardly get one

I thought I saw 2 hours somewhere before also but it seems like I'd have a tone of milk in freezer if I did that! lol Maybe I should resaerch how many ounces a day I should be producing.... something. No one seems to really know.

It varies how much. Pumping doesn't show how much you're really producing at all. Kadens bf since birth and only gets formula while I'm working (only a few nights a week) and I can't even pump an ounce and hes growing just fine.

My experience is that every 3 to 4 hours you should get 6 to 8oz. Babies eat between 24 and 36oz every day. Each baby has their specific ammount somewhere in that range. If you are producing enough now, I don't see any problems with what you are doing. And at my calculations you are producing 48oz per day. Are you having any extra and freezing it?

are you using a manual or double electric? I used a double electric and I would get 6 to 8oz every 3 to 4 hours, so I basically pumped 2x a day at work.

Could just be that you don't respond well to pumping. You should be able to get most of what the baby would get with a pump if you respond well to it.
