A question about a 12 months old vocabulary

posted 11th Sep '09
Evan just turned 12 months old this past Sunday   He already can say a bunch of words. IMO he has a big vocabulary for a 12 month old. Here is a short list of some of the things that he can say...
mama
dada
mamaw
papaw
ball
boob (LOL)
book
turtle (durdle, hehe!)
choo choo
wat dat
dat
Pooh (as in Winnie the Pooh)
Mo (Elmo)
oh uh
thanks (tanks   )
hey
bye-bye
truck (tuck)
as well as quite a few more. It is 3:30am, so my mind is slipping a bit. LOL!

I was wondering about how many words your LO says/said at this age

I wonder because a friend of mine has a 12 month old too (he is 3 days younger than Evan) andEvan says a bunch more than he does. Of course, she doesn't believe it. As an example, the other day, the boys and I were at Walmart. They had been good after we got their pics taken, soI let them pick out a toy. Zach immediately found a truck he liked, so he got that. I couldn'tfind anything for Evan. Well, we walked by astuffed Winnie the Pooh in the baby department and he said"Dat Pooh, momma. Dat Pooh" and pointed at it.   When I told her about it, she told me that shedidn't believe that he had said or did that.   She asked me to videotape him saying that.   Wearen't friends in IRL, just ona message board (BTW not this one! LOL!)so she hasn't necessarily heard his vocabulary skills before. She can't believe that he not only has that big of a vocabulary, but that he can comphrend things so well already. Like if I ask him to do something, he usually will do it. He understands me very well and follows instructions great.

Anyway, this was a bit of vent as well as I was just curious as to what your LO's vocabulary skills were at about 12 months old and how well they comprehended things. His pedi said that he has the skills, comprehension (sp) and vocabulary of a 15-18 month old. I have a 2 1/2 year old now and I agree with that statement. Evan is at the level that Zach was at about 18 months old and Zach had a great vocab at that age too. I think that Zach has alot to do with Evan's somewhat advanced comprehension

So sorry long! I ramble when I am tired! I should try to go back to sleep now! LOL

My son says mbabahehahabwaha
That's about it....

He shakes his head "no" when I say "no"
He only waves hi when you say "hi"... he won't say it back....
He points/gestures
He Whines a lot! lol
When I say peek-a-boo!, he hides his face....

You should bring you Evan over to my house and maybe his vocab could rub off a bit on my Ryan lol

Well, I don't have a 12 month old, but I'm friends with quite a few people who do, and I'm pretty sure none of them have that big of a vocab! My best friend's son barely speaks. Just curious, did you do sign language with Evan or Zach at all?

We do sign a bit. Only a few signs though. Only because the boys and I are the only ones that will use them
