re: Cereal to help gain weight?

An extra 2 empty calories in a bottle is not going to do anything for him. Is he on high calorie formula? That is your best bet!

I would get a new pedi, and then ask about the cereal. I would not do until then. I have a 33 weeker, and he had really bad reflux, so the doctor suggested cereal in the bottle. It really helped him with the reflux. He had surgery at 2 months to fix the reflux, and after that we did not have the need to cereal so he did not get any solids until 8 months.

Maybe try Prosobee? Thats what formula my daughter was on at the NICU when she lost too much weight. It helped her gain pretty good in just a week. I would also suggest getting a new Pedi

My little girl was born at 29 weeks. She is nowalmost 3 monthsold (corrected age 2 weeks). She was on the neosure 22 cal until they found out she was allergic to the proteins in cows milk so they put her on nutramigen 22 cal. It is not the exactsame as the neosure nit is mainly for babies with problems digesting cows milk proteins. She gained weight well on both of them. She has really bad reflux so we started to put 1 tsp rice cerealto 1 oz of formula. Since she has been on the cereal she gained 10 ounces in a week!! I would suggest you get a new pedi that is familiar with with preemies and ask them.

hey ladies just wanted to update u....we went to a GI dr and a nutrionist today. She said he was having trouble digesting his formula (Neosure) so those extra 7 calories he was getting were being used/burned trying to digest the formula...so they switched him to Similac Alimentum..which is easily digested...she also is having us add Polycose to help him gain....she also up'ed it to 30 calorie! I am hoping this does the trick!! He is now 7lbs...so we will see how much he gains!
I also now have TONS of cans of Neosure formula if anyone wants them please PM me!!

Keon is on the same formula, he was getting 24 calorie and it was running right through him. so we are back at making 20 calorie but adding 1.5ml of veggie oil to it, it doesnt run through him as bad. He gained just about a 1 lb in 8 or 9 days, hes almost 10lbs now

Oh that's great news! I'm glad they got it fixed and he's gaining.

Wow 30 seems like a lot! But I am glad it seems to be working, hopefully he does well now!
