Elder Abuse

Does anyone know anything about Elder abuse? We are not sure what to do or who to contact. I live in MASS. Here is a copy of the letter that I have written about the entire situation. If someone could help me out it would be GREATLY appreciated.


My name is Laura, and this E-mail is on behalf of my grandfather Veteran David . My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer disease about 2 years ago. Not long before he was diagnosed with the disease he signed over all of his health rights to his wife's daughter in law. He was believed to be sick at the time when he signed the health rights over. This woman was now in charge of his health care and his finances. He had home health aides for some time that came in and out of his home, but in between their visits he was repeatedly getting out of the house and wandering off. He was told by his this new health care proxy that he had to live in his home and have home health aides because he had to much money, and was not able to go into a nursing home till all of his money was spent. While in the care of the aides money and things were stolen from his home. My mother complained and the health care proxy insisted that she " knew the nurses", and they would never do something like that. My mom who is my grandfathers daughter has asked for rights over my grandfather and she refuses. No one knows exactly where his money has gone, but he has nothing left. He was then sent to a nursing home, and they sent him to a phyciatric hospital where they put my grandfather on so much medication. He was than discharged and sent to another nursing home, and still on the same medication as when he left the phyciatric hospital. Prior to the phyciatric hospital (2 months before) my grandfather was able to function, walk around, hold a convosation, garden, walk his dog, and many other things. We went to see him in the nursing home today, and he is in the worst condition we ever saw him in. We barely recognized him because he has lost about 60 pounds in a 2 month period. His face is sunken in and so are his eyes. He is on so much medication. He could not function, talk, and barely open his eyes. His health care proxy admits that he has not eaten properly because he has lost his dentures, and she has yet to get him new ones. I am not sure what can be done about this situation. My grandfather is being taken advantage of, and is not being taken care of properly. Sure sign of elder abuse, and something certainly has to be done. I truly belive that if action is not taken that he will not live much longer. I am begging for some type of help.

Thats REALLY sad. I hope this gets resolved. No one deserves that kind of treatment.

i beleive that CPS taks care of elderly abuse
you can file online or call their 1800 number. good luck, no one deserves to be treated like that, no matter what age.

Have you been to the new Sonic yet in Peabody?! Went last night and it was CRAZY!

If your mother wants control - she does NOT ask the other proxy if she can - she should be going to court - and demanding that right, from the judge. The judge will determine who is the best proxy - not this daughter in law - she has NO power to make that decision, the judge does.

nope not yet i heard that its like an hour wait so im waiting for next month until it settles down

We all wish that we could take her to court. No one has money to for a lawyer, and Domestic cases take years to settle sometimes. We dont have much time left...

No way! Thats cool. My husbaand took classes there last semester. What are you going for? Where is your grandfather being taken care of? I hope everything gets straightend out with him! Thats really sad!
