Anyone delaying solids

I've been going to this group called New Mom's Network. It's held by our local health department and it's a group of new moms (obviously) who get together once a week at our nursing station. Each week we discuss different topics about our babies with one of the nurses there and we have guest speakers as well. This week was about introducing solids. We had a dietician come in and was telling us that recently studies have shown that babies shouldn't be introduced to any solids including cereals until 6 months old. She was going to bring us a publication that the government had come out with, but it was still at the printers, it is available on line. It's recommended by the World Health Organization. Here's a couple of links about it.

I'm just wondering if any moms are delaying introducing solids to their babies. Our next ped's appointment is on July 31, Thomas will be almost 3 months and I know we'll be talking about it.

I am not giving solids until 6 months. Also, juices shouldn't be given until 3 months because they can irritate the mucus glands and cause sore throats. My best friend just went through that with her 2 month old...

I havent started Michayla on solids yet. However, she had a doctors appointment on Tuesday and the doctor suggested starting her on solids because she is still wanting to nurse every 2 hours! I really want to wait until 6 months though.... but I will probably give in and start her on some cereal soon.....

Jordan's doctor told me he could have cereal at 4 months. And then veggies at 5 months, fruits at 6. So that's what we are doing. Jordan is doing really well with it.

Why do you think some docs say start them early and others say delay them?
My doctor told me to start Sera early. So I did...and she's doing great. But yeah.

Ava is wanting to eat more, and so her doctor said we could start on some rice cereal if we wanted, we might try that or just bump up her ounces!!!! Altho before that he had said to wait it out until necessary!

I am trying a very little amount of rice cereal tonight. Not even enough to make the bottle of breastmilk thick or notice able. He is just killing me with his appetite. I can't keep up.
I was really against it but I just couldn't justify not doing it anymore. It is so miniscul that it isn't solids, solids. So yeah.
It didn't work. I'm going to wait until he's old enough.

I wonder the same thing. It's weird. quoteposted 14th Jul '07
I'm not planning on starting solids untill 6 months old, I just don't see the need for it. My son eats like a horse and it gets inconvienant and kills my boobs but I don't think giving him cereal any earlier than 6 months old is what's best.

My goal is to wait until six months as well.

I love my peda. I asked at my son's last appt. (for the next baby) I was uncomfortable with early soilds. He says any soilds after 9 months is what he prefers, and simple table soilds at 12 months. If I am able to breast feed then do it as long as I can.
At first, I thought about howhard it would be to tell my parents this if they ever watched her, but they understand what the dr. says goes.

i give evan cereal amost every night. i give him it in a bowl with his little baby spoon though so that he learns to eat..i dont give it to him every night but some nights hes really hungry and i know that im out of milk..i dont think there is nothing wrong with it, alot of people give there kids things when they are young and it doesnt harm them..the only thing that i am planning on doing is cereal until 6 months then starting of veggies and fruits..i read in an article that it is unnessecary to give babies baby food that is called like mac and cheese or those dessert cobler ones because it makes the child learn to like those kinds of food.
