Shaken Baby Syndrome

September is Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Month. Its a very real and important issue.

I am big on Shaken Baby Syndrom Awareness. My god daughter was shaken by the baby sitter. She had a fractured skull, partial paralysis, and was almost blind and deaf in her left ear and eye because of blood and brain swelling.

She was shaken, thrown across the room 7-10 feet into the side of a car seat, picked up punched with a closed fist 3 times, slapped with an open hand 4 times, shaken agian, dropped on her head, then left on the kitchen table. The only way she survived was that the babysitters husband came home and found her and took her to the hospital. (the way we know all of this is that the babysitter confessed after being shown pictures of Addie.)

Our poor girl now has to go to therapists weekly, speaking, walking, and motor skills. She can now walk, but she will never be able to run. She has regained most of her hearing.

The woman who did this, we had known for 3 yrs. She suddenly snapped. Please don't ever shake a child. If you EVER feel angry, or frustrated, there is no shame in having to walk away for a minute or two.

my brother was shook to death by my dad...I DEF. SUPPORT THIS!

That makes me so sad   This is most definitely why Hayden gets some alone time in his room while Mom gets some alone time outside with a cigarette when he gets way too stressful/demanding. 5 minutes of alone time has saved us more times than I can count from a rash punishment or God forbid worse.

How the hell can some one do sooooo many hurtful things to a child...that makes me sick....everyone how hurts a baby should be tortured that same way or killed the same way the baby or child was!!!! That should be a LAW!!!

I read your story awhile ago and it still makes me tear up, that poor, poor baby. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel. I think this should be a sticky too, I have seen some girls here on BG that have been effected by SBS as well. So tragic.

OMFG...that makes me want to cry. The thought of someone doing that to my daughter. I would fucking kill them.

How could she do that to such a precious baby girl...Im very happy that she survived.

If you dont mind me asking how old was she when this happened??

I agree but I think that the death penalty is as close to that as we're going to get.

The babysitter freaked when she realized she would not get parole, so she withdrew her guilty plea, and plead non. So they are now STILL in court for it almost a year and a half later.

I would have killed that babysitter, I hate to say it but I would have. I don't understand how anyone could do that to a child. Now I'm sad inside
