Question about pets and rentals..

Does anyone know why a landlord would not allow cats.. reason being because the house is heated with forced hot air.. but dogs are OK?..

We're looking for a new place.. this one sounded nice, but we have 2 cats

Some people's cats like to spray and cat pee won't come out like dog pee will and it smells much stronger.

hmmm.... i would think they'd be more concerned with cats spraying and marking their territory.. or maybe clawing/destroying the place... but idk ..

lol.. meh.. it's owner occupied, so that might be kind of hard. They love to hang out in the windows!

Be careful about that. If they find out, they can call animal control and have your dog taken away from you.

I'd say it's because of the clawing and spraying, or maybe the landlord just doesn't like cats & has to find an excuse for it.

he told me no Pits, my beagle is ok... and i am pretty sure he knows i have her. lol. but i dont think he cares.

I moved into a duplex once that had cats in it before me. eww and as soon as i shampooed my carpet the urine smell came noticeable. cat urine can DESTROY!
my mom had to redo 2 whole rooms in her house bc her husbands cat pee'd all over.

yikes.. I am glad I have well behaved cats..

Well for one, you aren't allowed to have your dog where you're living, if your dog one day decides to bite someone, they can sue your landlord for allowing you to have the dog there as well as sue you for having that dog. I know EVERYONE says "my dog would never do that" but you never know. Dogs have their off days. &For two, BSL is being talked about in your area.

If you get pet liability insurance, in the rare case your dog snaps, the insurance will cover medical costs for whoever was hurt, which covers your ass & your landlords ass.

I used to work pt for a real estate agency. The reason is cuz cats smell really bad. They usually pee on stuff and one smell you cannot get rid of is cat piss. That and the litter box smell. Dogs go outside and they have less allergies also. Dog pee is not half as bad and trying to get out the cat pee smell, even if it is just in the litter box.
