Swept Membranes

I went to the doctors today and I am not stuck at 3cm anymore. I am 4cm almost fully effaced, and the babies head is right there. The doctor also swept my membranes. I am so excited the contractions are already getting stronger and I am feeling aot more pressure all I have to do now is wait and see. So how many of you got your membranes stripped and if so did it work and how long afterwards?

I had my membranes swept twice and still went a week over! lol.. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear.. lmao.. you sound like you could go anytime now! The pressure is the greatest sign. It will feel like you have to poop only REALLY intense.. lmao.

Girl, you are so close! I wouldn't even bother with all that discomfort (stripping membranes). You have enough coming around the corner!

The doctor wanted to do it he offered it because of all the contractions and because I was stuck at 3cm for the longest time and barely just got to four. I think he feels bad because of all the stuff I have been thru since 25 weeks. I have been a trooper.

well with my first, they swept mine and i went into hard labor an hour later.

with my second, they did it 3x and it worked on the 3rd try. the first two they barely swept them, so it didn't work. the 3rd time i could tell it was going to work because i spotted and got cramps right after. she said she really dug in there lol

the general rule among midwives is, if you don't go into labor within 24 hours of membrane sweeping, it didn't work.

but if you're getting cramps and contractions after just having them swept, dollars to donuts says it worked and you'll be having your baby soon!

I'm having my doc strip mine next Friday so hopefully I can go on my own before the induction on the 24th.

Did it hurt to have it done?

not really. its as uncomfortable as a pap smear is. it's not the most fun thing in the world, but it didn't make me say ouch.

Dang, maybe my doc was just too rough, or I wasn't ready. I think I was only 1 cm at that appt. Now I'm 3, hoping for 4 by my next appt.
