breast feeding question

posted 16th Aug
so when my baby was born he had jaundice. Dr. told me to stop breast feeding. so during that time i pumped and froze my milk... apparently during that time i did not pump as much as i should have because now that i am breast feeding again i cant keep up with him and i keep drying up... i heard there is some kind of vitamin, or pill you can take to help your hormones produce more milk to breast feed? any body heard of that, or have any suggestions????
helpppppp please!!! i dont want to use formula

Wow you're doctor was a real asshole. You don't have to stop breastfeeding during jaundice, you're supposed to keep nursing and keep the baby in the sunlight more.

You can increase your water intake, eat oatmeal and try fenugreek/mother's milk tea. Nurse as much as you and that will tell your body to make more milk. You can pump in between feedings as well.

Fennugreek really works, it comes in capsule form so you don't have to drink any nasty tea (though it makes your breath smell like maple syrup   )

You can get it at GNC or most places like Walgreens.
Just drink PLENTY of water and you should notice a difference in just a few days. Good luck, I commend your determination

Fenugreek.. 3 pills 3 times a day (not what the directions say) Blessed Thistle or the mothers milk tea with it will make a big difference.

Nurse like crazy and pump after every feeding. Also pump for 5 minutes after you stop getting milk.

ETA: also MALTED ovaltine is supposed to work well!

Why did they tell you to stop. My daughter had jaundice really bad and all I was told was to feed her more frequently.

As for the question about boosting with pills. There is mother's milk tea, fenugreek, you can eat oatmeal and make sure you are hydrated. Try pumping as you nurse your son. Pump on the side opposite to him nursing. Also check with your hospital to see if you could rent a hospital grade pump.

that dr is stupid. BF'ing is great for jaundice. It is a natural laxative and helps baby pass the bilrubin out of their system. what an idiot.

ANYWAYS....nurse as often as possible. that is the best way to up your supply. stay hydrated, eat oatmeal (the real kind, not instant), mothers milk tea, fenugreek (walmart or a health store), flax seeds (health store)

wow my baby came down with jaundice the 2nd day and i was never told to stop BFing!! I was told to BF constantly and to lay my baby next to the window for 5-10 min with no clothes on or like an hour with clothes....they need the light...it cleared up within a week and a half.. I would just keep trying your best to breast feed...hopefully that will help ur milk come back in if your trying to keep up with ur babies needs
