ANOTHER Health care reform post

posted 14th Aug
There has been a lot of misinformation about the health care bill going around. It appears the president is propagating some "facts" of his own to strengthen his argument for reform.
Thoughts?

I know this is OT, but I couldn't help sharing this little glowing tidbit of hypocrisy

Yesterday during a town hall meeting, President Obama got his facts completely wrong. He stated that a surgeon gets paid $50,000 for a leg amputation when, in fact, Medicare pays a surgeon between $740 and $1,140 for a leg amputation. This payment also includes the evaluation of the patient on the day of the operation plus patient follow-up care that is provided for 90 days after the operation. Private insurers pay some variation of the Medicare reimbursement for this service.

My stepmother works in the health care field and has told me numerous times that private insurers as well as self-pay clients usually pay 10x that which Medicare does. Therefore, I am confused at this argument.

I know, in my own situation, it worked out to be more. I have private insurance and my labor and deliver total was $17,000k. My friend has medicaid - same doctor, c-section just like I did, same room time, etc and her bill (which was billed to Medicaid, loaded with Medicaid discounts) was $7k. Medicare and medicaid do get more discounted rates than private insurance companies.

The white house is lying to the public so that they can get the citizens to agree to their ridiculous health care plan. Point blank lying.

How's that for change and hope you can believe in? LOL

Because politicians, before this administration, have never lied?

and we wonder why they are making the surgeons and insurance companies out to be the big bad guys...

it would be a helluva lot easier for politicians to perhaps try to do some tort reform instead of villafying drs and insurance companies...but then - i think i saw someone mention why we're not going to do that - considering that a majority of congressmen are lawyers...

Perhaps hospital reimbursement rates are closer to Obama's stated figure, but he is making doctors out to be the bad guys claiming they get paid $50K for an amputation. Not even close.

Never said they didn't. I don't think the majority of them lie either. Not all politicians are evil.

I think there are a few of them that attempt to be in it for the good of man kind, but most of them are padding their wallets from the support of lobbyists.

The difference between me and other Obama supporters is that I see him for exactly who he is - a man that had huge hopes for this country but didn't quite fathom the type of pressure he would be under once he was elected president. He is not inherently evil, he just didn't realize that his dreams were not the dreams of the Congressman and Senators that supported him.

Of course they have lied. That doesn't make it right. Obama ran on a campaign of change and transparency, and he is doing anything but that.

I'm not nearly as optimistic as you are about his true heart-felt intentions.

I didn't figure you would be.   lol

I just think that people tend to forget that when politicians are running for any office, they want to act like they are going to be this great, humble, ridiculously awesome, glorified saint. Bush ran that way, Gore ran that way, Clinton ran that way for his second term, and during this election, it was even worse - on both sides. I, for once, would love to see a guy come in and say, "Hey. I'm human. I'm not perfect. I'm probably going to fuck some shit up, but atleast I'm honest about it." and see how many people will vote for them. lol

The difference is, Obama's brainwashing capabilities far exceeded anyone else who as ever run for President. People bought it, hook, line and sinker. SO many Obama voters had ZERO idea about any of his policy ideals.
