when my son was in the NICU they said they like to have an iv in place just in case they need to give them something right away and cuz an iv goes straight into the blood flow unlike a shot

Well she was still getting poked its the same thing...But i rather had my daughter get a iv than shots everyday!!

We were in the hospital 3 nights and so she got 3 shots compared to the 7 attempts at the IV. If the only need for the IV is for the antibiotics that they give every 24hrs than no thanks. Her hand was black and blue from it. But its fine, to each their own.

Thats terrible, your poor lo.
Sounds like the hosptial had some pretty unexperienced nurses. IMO, thats not right for them to work on babies.

I am so sorry to hear that. Your daughter is definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Hope she has a speedy recovery!

She needs the IV for antibiotics, she is feeding just fine, thankfully they got the IV in her hand, they got one of the nicu nurses to come put it in, since they are used to putting IVs in small babies, and she got it in on the first try

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers, she is going to be in for at least 5 days, they have the infection under control, its just because she is a preemie they want to keep her in. She is doing good though, no fever, her vital signs are good, but no wireless at the hospital,I am going to go crazy, luckily the hospital is only 5 minutes from my house, so my husband comes in the afternoon and sits with her, and then I come home for a little while.

Not to be a bitch but have you been in my shoes?? No....I saw the 1 shot every 24 hrs better than the constant stabbing of incompitent nurses. Yea its a tough call but it was my call. She had 3 shots, that was it. Whats the difference if your baby gets 3 vaccines at a c/u??
