"Natural" child birth??
posted 1st Aug
So this has been bugging me for a while...
To me all natural child birth is all natural, that is you never recieved any pain medication in your iv, nothing to "take the edge off," etc. It's been bugging me that people who get the narcotic in the IV still tell people they gave birth naturally, when in all honestly they really didn't.
Am I completely wrong??
I gave birth to my daughter with nothing, not a drop of anything. I had an iv, of course, for fluids and because they made me (to be completely honest) lmao, I would have much rather NOT had that damn thing. I consider myself to have given all natural child birth...
Why is it people only consider an epidural the pain medication that makes it "medicated child birth?"
What's really considered "all natural"??

i agree with you, all natural is with nothing at all!

I'm the same as you, though mentally when I picture 'natural childbirth' I think a woman going solo in like a homebirth or somewhere outside a hospital... though I understand the IV is 'necessary' in their eyes (BS, cmon now)

All natural is of course nothing but usually natural child birth just means vaganial birth if you had one of those its natural I had nothing both times except pitocin which makes contractions stronger never knew what it was to go into labor naturally both times was induced

Natural birth: Birth without the help of medical interventions. Women often use relaxation and breathing techniques to work through the pain.
Vaginal birth: Baby is born vaginally.
Medicated birth: Birth with medicines such as narcotics or an epidural.
I think that what's bothering you is just people using the wrong word (definition-wise). It annoys me too. But eh.

I agree, as well. "natural" has to be natural, not semi-natural, lol

I had gas when I was giving birth to my son & that was only for 3 out of the 24hrs I was in labour, it didnt make me hurt any less, just made my head spin.
I consider my birth natural.

I think they mean they gave birth vaginally the "natural" way instead of a c-section. Some people could very well mean it that way. but yes, i know what you mean.

I agree. Natural childbirth should be considered drug free, vaginal births. Getting an epidural is not "natural." Even if you did give birth out your vagina.

I had an epidural only because they pretty much made me.. I was tollerating my contractions and they asked if i wanted an epi, I told them i didnt think i needed one...but they were like "oh yes you will, you arent hurting now, but you will be in a minute" at the time i was like "ok, whatever, give it to me" But why dont hospitals push for natural labor rather than RECOMMENDING epi's? is it for that extra $$?!!? I feel the same way you do. Natural is NOTHING at all.. I wish i had the opportunity to do that...

My hospital was pretty strict with giving epidurals. They never once asked me if I wanted one.

I agree. And I don't consider it natural if your drugs didn't work. Just because the chemicals are still in your body.
That's why I describe my birth as "drug free" instead of "natural".

I agree! Although most people say their drugs didn't work, like the narcotic. But that's not there to remove pain! But to mask it.
It has to be the wording, and it bugs me that I did it completely natural and the people who did get drugs are still praised for going natural, you know? lmao, sounds super childish but it just digs at me the wrong way!

Having a child come through your vagina is natural. Now, if you have a natural, but medicated birth, it's still natural. The child is coming out naturally.
You had a natural, & drug-free birth.
