ureaplasma and strep b?

posted 26th Jul
Has or did anyone have ureaplasma and strep b as there cause of premature birth? I had both with aidan which was unknown till after he was born (at 26 weeks 5 days)
I didnt not know I had these, in fact I had never felt better! the day before I had him I went to a wedding in the afternoon then a house warming party that night!

if anyone did have these, have you gone on to have a full term pregnancy? Im really worried this time around that I have another preemie   I have a scan in a couple of weeks to check the cervix to make sure its not shortening yet (I had 2 really quick births) if it is Ill have the stitch put in, if not Ill be monitered every week or every other week

help I need reasurance that I will have a full term baby this time around like I did with my first boy

I had Strep B but I was induced at 36w2d because of Pre-E. And it was actually passed on to my daughter because I didn't receive enough medicine in time.

Ureaplasma can cause major problems, but loads of women have Strep B and carry to term and overdue, they just get antibiotics. Infact the chances of baby contracting it after 37 weeks gest are really small.

My waters were leaking with my first son, and unknown at the time i had Strep B and got the infection. Unfortunately he didn't make it as it was still a couple of weeks from viability, but if it weren't for the infectionwe may have been able to hold on longer. All my subsequent pregnancies have ended from 18-27 weeks. This time around i feel the pregnancy has been poorly managed in some respects, i haven't been retested or anything, but here i am at 33 weeks pregnant and baby doing just fine!

Have you discussed your concerns with your doctors? Hopefully they can give you a plan for your antenatal care and reassure you.

Aidan got very sick from it and ended up on medication for the best part of a month just to try to get rid of it

Poor thing   He must have done really well to battlethrough though, since they already have such an under developed immune system at that gestation. Pregnancy after a micro preemie is so damn worrysome! i keep meaning to bump the thread about it because i've seen quite a few women in the same boat recently. Hopefully your doctors have an action plan and you'll go full term, although i know so early on in pregnancy it can be a little hard to imagine at the time!

oh I am sorry for you loss/losses
I havent had a chance to talk to my doctor as he actually left 2 weeks ago and I didnt know. so I have to find another one!
I did not know I had ureaplasma or strep b but they sent the placenta away for an autospy after aidan was delivered and it came back then
I said to my husband that I am/was the reason he arrived early and fair enough I was! now Ive been battling pnd and stress from his birth and have been having panick/anxiety attacks
will make an appointment soon to see the new doctor

((hugs)) it is a really difficult thing to come to terms with, but hun you didn't want to have them and you didn't plan for things to work out like that - so it is NOT your fault at all.

Here's the link to that thread

I've got tips there about preterm labour and just general moaning lol, but feel free to vent any fear there as i know how emotional it can be.

Try not to stress about things as it won't do any of you any good, so long as you make the doctors aware i'm sure everything will work out.

ureaplasma caused my preterm labor at 29 weeks. luckily i was able to hold on till 32 weeks and had my c-section then, aftera months stay on hospital bedrest. it was so crazy the onset as my pregnancy was normal until i started leaking....it was very traumatic as this was my first pregnancy......i am curious about anyone else with a similar story
