Sleep paralysis is due to an ill-timed disconnection between the brain and the body.

Quoting Momma Dee: yup i looked up one day to see what it was called because i've been having it since i was a teenager and i told my mom about it and she said she used to get it too.well its just so strange because you just lay there and try to move and nothing happens...i always thought i was just extra groggy and being lazy lol...but no i really cant move for a couple of minutes..is it dangerous at all?
Quoting ♥Kara: Hmm Can't it be deadly? I was thinking a mama on here was talking about it one other time.
Quoting B Hole: No because you can still breath. You just can't move or talk. You're not really awake, and that's why ... [snip!] ... awake, and that's why you can't move. It's not actual paralysis, it's a sleep disorder that MANY people surprisingly have.ive never tried to talk when it happens...wow thats so strange...but it doesnt have any long term negative effects on the brain?
