My Preemies Giant Milestone
posted 29th Jun '07
My now 15 month old had it rough and I want to spread our new joy. He was born at 33 weeks, spent 3 weeks in the NICU. He was found at birth to have swollen kidneys (hydronephrosis), bad adnoids, chronic lung disease (massive scar tissue inside the lungs), bone in his nasal cavities (choanal atresia), asthma, gerd, aspiration, problems swollowing (dysphasia), bad adnoids, and many other issues. At 6 days of age, he had a tracheotomy with a trach put into his throat to breath, and at 8 months weighing only 8 lbs, had a feeding tube put in. He has multiple specialist working to get him better. On June 27th, after passing a sleep study he came without his trach!!! We are hearing his voice for the first time!! It is beautiful!!!!! He is laughing, crying, cooing, and just making all kinds of noise. He can only make vowel sounds right now, but it is great!!! I wanted to share our milestone with all of you because with preemies, you understand!!

Keep us in your prayers. We have had our trach out since June 26th and doing great
Monday Aug 20th, we go to see if we can get our feeding tube out. We are on a natural high knowing he is doing so well since we have been eatting people food for 4 weeks now. Breadsticks, eggs, and yogurt are his new favorites. We hope he now weighs at least 17 lbs since he is 16 and a half months. Will let everyone know as time comes. Thanks for comments! [/img]
