Incompetent cervix with no cerclage (long)

posted 14th Jul
Who has had this? I went in for my 24 week visit and got an ultrasound, and was told by the tech that I had no measureable cervix. When the doctor examined me, she said I was over 75% effaced (down to 7 mm from a normal 40 mm) and 2 cm dilated, and she could feel his head right there.

They sent me to the hospital to try to do a cerclage the next day, put me in trendellenberg position for 24 hours, and then had the perinatologist come in and tell me that he couldn't do it b/c my cervix was to short and they could break my water if they did do one. I was in the hospital for almost 4 weeks and they didn't think I would last this long.

They gave me a fetal fibronecton and it came out negative, which means labor has not started so they sent me home with a prescription for procardia to stop contractions. I am curenntly in my 28th week and still holding him in, but without a cerclage, how long can I logically expect to last?

my cousins ex had the same problem she was admitted in the hospital at 18 wks and eventually went into labor at 28 wks. if your not having sex, avoiding every way possible to get a uti or yeast infection you should be able to make it to atleast 34 wks. have they put you on strict bed rest?

he was in the nicu for a good 3 months and went home with a heart monitor for 6 wks. he had a hole in his heart but it eventually closed up on his own. he is 3 yrs old now and he is such a tiny guy he could fit into my daughters clothes with ease. he's tall but he's super thin but nothing has stopped him from being physically or mentally like the other kids his age.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. I'm just glad I've come this far.

i was diagnosed with an incompetant cervix with my first baby when i was 23 wks, i didnt know i had it until then luckily there was still enough of my cervix for the dr to be able to do a cerclage. he said they wouldnt have done it after 24 wks anyway so i was lucky it happened at 23 wks. my water broke at 31 wks and my son spent 3 wks in the nicu and went home on an apnea monitor. this is my 2nd pregnancy and this time im being watched very carefully, i had a preventative cerclage done at 14 wks to prevent any kind of change in it and im also taking progesterone shots.

Yeah they told me my son was viable at that point so that was another reason they didn't do it. I had hoped I could make it to about 32-34 weeks, so we shall see. Thanks for the inspiration!! How old is he now?

well i was in the same situation but they said i was having contractions and they stopped it. i was in the hospital for a while also. But i think you can go for a long time to the whole pregnancy long as you stick to the bed rest. I didn't make it because my water broke after being a week out of the hospital and i stayed until he came which about 2 and a half weeks. The doctors and nurses were very surprised i made i that long.

HE WILL BE 3 IN OCTOBER AND IS THE MOST NORMAL, HEALTHY LITTLE BOY EVER. HE WEIGHS ABOUT 40 LBS NOW AND IS PRETTY TALL. HE WEIGHED 4.5 LBS AT BIRTH THE DOCTORS WERE SURPRISED HE WAS THAT BIG THEY WERE EXPECTING A 1-2 LB BABY!
