My Child Will Not Sleep, What Do I Do?

posted 28th Nov '06
I have a 3 year old daughter, and she will not go to bed for me? I have taken away naps and she still fights with me. It is like 1:00 in the morning before she will finally give in. I feel horrible because I have to hold her against her will to try to calm her down and get her to relax. She stayed at her aunts the other day and she told me that she did not give in until 5:00 am. I just don't know what to do? I hate dealing with it everynight, and need some alone time too.

Do you have her in a dark quiet room?? My son is usually a pisser when it comes to going to bed but if it is pretty dark and quiet he will usually give in. Good luck!

Yeah we turn the lights and tv off, and lay beside her otherwise she will not stay laying down. I just hope that it gets better before the new baby comes, becuase I am going to be so tired.

if children are overly tired or worked up they will have a harder time going to sleep so don't take away the naps and try to wind things down earlier in the evening, also keep her on a routine weekdays and weeknights, cut out sugar from her diet. put her to sleep the same time every night and don't make a big deal out of it, if she gets up put her back to bed and don't say anything. eventually she will get tired of this and give in

Dont lay down with her, put her down say goodnight and be done with it, if she keeps getting out of bed, put her right back in it. After a while she will get the hint. You might have a couple of sleepless nights, but after a while of realizing that good night means just that......youll sleep better too!! Good luck, its hard, but you can do it

there are all natural medicine's you could try to help calm your child and make them sleep. my neighbor gives it to her daughter, per her pedi's advice. for the life of me i can not remember the name of it but she says it really helps. i did find one:

my son is up to all hours as well, so i really am not much help.
