My Formula feeding costs for ONE whole year!

posted 13th Jul '09
This is NOT a negative formula feeding vs. breast feeding post. Please don't use it as such!

I had the idea when I first started buying formula that I was going to keep track of what I bought and add it up in the end to see how expensive it was for me to buy formula for one year. So what I did was keep each scoop when I bought a can.

First off, Kacey was breast fed and formula fed for the first 10-12 weeks. After that she was soley formula fed. We bought Similac Advance with Omega 3&6. The value size. It ranged anywhere from $29.99 on sale to $37.99 on a bad day where it was harder to find (and sometimes it was)

This is what my counter looked like when we found it on sale for $29.99!

These are the scoops!!! All 38 of them!

In addition to the value size cans, we also bought two boxes of ready made formula at $34.99 a box. Plus tax of course!

For fun - Kacey with her formula around 6 months old!

Ok.... SO!

38 cans at $29.99 + 2 boxes at $34.99 + tax = $1378.94
38 cans at $37.99 + 2 boxes at $34.99 + tax = $1725.50

I would have paid anywhere between $1378.94 and $1725.50 for ONE YEAR of formula. Damn right I would have rathered breast feed but it wasn't physically feesable. It's very expensive to formula feed!

And, again for fun! My now ONE year old Kacey!

I breastfed until after Demetris six month growth spurt. I thought growth spurts were hard on my boobs, he's going through his nine month now and my wallet is hurtin!!!! I'm lucky too, Demetri takes the target brand
lactose sensitive formula, I dunno how it would feel if he needed an expensive one!

For a few days Kacey was refusing the homogenized milk, so I thought I was going to have to buy the Similac step 2 formula as well but then she got used to it. That would definately be hard!

I've seen a lot of formulas that were less expensive than the Similac Advance with Omega 3&6, but it was what she was started on at the hospital and she was doing well - so I thought I better not switch her.

That's awesome that you got your son taking the store brand

Yeah we tried him on the Costco brand too, but he needs lactose sensitive. It made him spit up and have gas all over again. When I was soley bfing I couldn't eat too many things with lactose in them. Suckyyy.
