thank you! i totally agree and that does make me feel better.

YOU are the first line of defense for your child and YOU have the right to make those decisions. Nobody else should get to pressure you into making choices that you feel will be detrimental to your baby.

very true!

Wow I feel bad for your sister, maybe you should research hep a before you take her neice/nephew away from her.

I'm glad that you know so much more than me to try to make me feel bad about my decision! Hep is horrifically contagious and one of the main spreaders of Hep A is fecal matter and my sister is a filthy pig who never washes her hands- I must also be a bad person because my other sister who does drugs constantly and has unprotected sex with many, many people will not be holding him either. My own OB told me to not come in contact with anything that she touched and not let her hold my child. But what do doctors know about illnesses and transference?

Sure glad I heard from you!

She wont be sharing food, or licking her, or spreading saliva any other way. Yes it is contagious, but with precaution a person with hep A can hold a child.

I have read plenty on Hep A. I have a family member with it. please explain how an infant would catch it through any of that. I am not saying watch over night, hold for hours on end, but to hold 10 seconds or whatever.

Nobody said she had to kiss her/him. It was said to " hold " her child

And it was a time frame I threw out there. Also I have had my SO hold my son while I put a jacket on, or fix my shirt, which is close enough to 10 seconds.

And where in the post did she say she wasn't cautious? She only said she is watching her child over people's feelings.

My sister is not cautious and loves to slobber all over children- I actually did put that in a post responding to another person that thinks I'm OMG SO MEAN. I don't want to get into all of her issues with a complete stranger as my family dynamics are not exactly your business, but she is also mentally ill. If she were completely healthy and not a person who would do something to somebody's child to "get back at them", it probably wouldn't be an issue. My family is not your family, so don't project onto me, please.

I think it's funny that people bitch about mothers letting people walk all over them and not protecting their children, but as soon as somebody comes in with a backbone, it's wrong and mean. I don't want strangers within a few feet of my infant, ever, and plan on keeping his carrier covered as much as possible- is that cruel, also?

no! i'm the same way!! whenever i'm at the grocery store or out wherever i always keep her carrier covered! ppl are nosey and love to go out of their way to look in at her or even worse try to touch her!
come on now! it was bad enough when everyone had to "look at that prego" when i was pregnant. now they have to stare at my poor child all the time too!
