soy milk

posted 4th Jul
does anyone give their toddler soy milk? i really want to start because i like it better then cows but i really dont know if it's ok to use,so good seems to be "low fat" so i don't think it's good to use. if you use soy milk for your toddler, what brand do you go with? thanks!

My older sister and her husband are Vegan. They have 2 kids and 1 on the way. I know their oldest daughter, who just turned 3, drinks soy milk. Their second daughter, who just turned one, is still drinking soy formula, so... I can't give much in the way of between the two ages. But they are extremely healthy children and have always been little chunky monkeys. From time to time if we are visiting them, I will give my son Soy milk in his sippy to drink (he's 18 months).

My daughter couldn't tolerate cow's milk when she turned 1 year, so we gave her rice milk.. I don't like soy because of all the phytoestrogens it contains... she was perfectly healthy on rice milk which is also "low fat" but she did eat plenty of full fat yogurt and cheeses..

oh thanks! As long as it's not too harmful to give time to time. I don't think i will all the time. It must be hard to raise kids vegan or even vegetarian, i would worry about them gaining weight alll the time and go crazy feeding them, i'd be lucky if i got to leave the house. I've heard a lot of cows milk has hormones as well and some other bad stuff so i can't decide which is better. I also heard too much soy is bad. Luckilly i'll only give either or once in awhile so hopefully both in moderation won't be harmful. i like the taste of so good's vanilla soy personally, probably cuz it's flavoured. are phytoestrogens really bad for you? i don't know the specific details about the cow hormones vs. phytoestrogens really.

You can buy cow's milk that does not contain hormones (look for certified organic stuff).. goat's milk is also very good for you.. I might add that my daughter was also still breastfeeding, so it wasn't a huge concern for us to have her on full fat milk.
Phytoestrogens mimic our own estrogens... it's all a matter of opinion in some cases. I have read studies that show reproductive issues in boys/men.. it causing thyroid issues... I could go on.. I personally don't feel it's good to consume a lot, like anything in life. Moderation is the key.
