How do you do it?!

posted 4th Jul
AHHHH! I am going crazy here with my daughters soother habit! She is awful with it...she wants it ALL the time and I don't know what to do. I have tried taking it away from her during the day but have failed. Maybe I am just not strong enough. Should I get rid of it completely, day AND night? If so, HOW?! She has about 5 of them and they are all up in her top drawer of her dresser but she knows they are there. Should I get rid of them ALL or should I keep one or two just incase?! AHHH   I will never give another child of mine a soother again.

Call me stupid, but I've never even heard of a Child of Mine soother. What is it? A Pacifier?

I would say if you wanna get rid of em.. and you can doit - do it cold turkey...
i personally have gotten my son to the point where he only gets his pootie in the crib ONLY... if hes tried cranky it dont matter.. no pootie... until he goes to bed...

If he wants his pootie... he will go over to his crib and want in there... and he will play in his crib...

I am going to do it cold turkey at end of this month.. Ima make him throw them away.. it will be hard first 2 or 3 days, but then they forget about it.. How old is she?!

If it makes you feel any better..

My daughter was born June 2007 (2yrs old) and STILL has a paci

At 18 months I broke of her wanting it 24/7 and got her to only use it in bed.

Within the last month everytime she gets upset she goes to the places where she knows i have hide them in the past (I tried new hidy spots hoping she wouldn't remember) and cries/screams/throws a fit to have it !! I refuse to give it and she gets MORE and MORE and MORE upset. Soon I have to give in and make her lay in bed to recieve it. When she is ready to get up she comes to give the paci to me.

She stayed the night 2x's this month with my mom and asked for a paci, but my mom didn't have one to offer so she went to bed w/out a fuss.. But she absolutely refuses to do that.. Its a battles for HOURS to get her to go bed w/out a paci at home.

I tried cutting the tip and she continued to suck on it.. I tried trashing it (and her watching) and she dug them out of the trash can..I threw them outside ..she pounded, kicked/screamed at the door for HOURS.

My parenting books say NOT TO WORRY that they won't keep it forever and will give it up on their own by school age..I know its true !! My best friend's daughter had a paci until she was 5yrs old and gave it up on her own the night before she started school. My best friend tried EVERYTHING to break her of it for 3yrs but finally gave up.

My daughter has perfect teeth and only gets it at bedtime and it keeps me from losing my LAST NERVE so I let her have it..

I keep telling her she is a big girl and doesn't need it in hopes one day she will believe me and give it up permantely..

I blame myself for this habit.. She was nearly broke of the paci at 1yr then was fussy/whiny constantly so I gave it to her.. and that started the habit back
