diet def is an acquired taste, I'll totally give you that one!

and what is so innate in soda as to make one gain weight? Common knowledge is that excessive sugar = weight gain.

I have given up soda before and it helped me lose a lot quickly. After having Noah I started dieting and cut out fast food, limited junk food, and started drinking diet pop. So far I have lost 15 lbs. I think diet pop tastes bad but I forced myself to drink it and have gotten used to it.

*some* studies say aspartame is bad. Others don't. There's no conclusive evidence. And just b/c lab rats don't do well w/ aspartame means nothing for us -- we are not rodents. And the amt it takes for a lab rat to have negative consequences would be the equiv of 500 lbs of sugar consumption per day for a human.

Besides, Diet Coke is made w/ Splenda

I want to STOP drinking Soda. not just start drinking diet. And doesn't diet Soda cause cancer or something? I feel like it would be a lot better for my health in general to stop drinking it and start drinking more water, don't you agree?

LOL....

No, soda does not cause cancer. Wow.

Some people think aspartame is a carcinogenic agent, but it's found in a vast array of foods and drink, not just diet soda. Plus, the amts of aspartame in diet soda are no where near significant enough to cause issues unless you drink perhaps 4 six packs a day for an extended length of time (like a year or more).

These are the same people that think aerosol deodorant causes cancer.

oops...forgot the last ?

I think it's healthy to limit the amt of anything going into your body. Even water...you can get water poisoning from too water consumption. It throws off the delicate electrolyte balance of your body and you die.

nah, it was a decision made on popular demand...although I should have clarified that the *option* of diet coke w/ splenda is out there. It didn't replace the other stuff. Sorry bout the confusion.

Make sure you read the label in regards to the aspertame/splenda. The name on the ingredients for Splenda is sucralose.

The quick way to check is to look for the bolded warning "Phenylketonurics - contains phenylalanine"

People with PKU can't process aspertame so anything with that warning has it.
