Sorry if this is a crazy question...

Or dumb question even... but I'm just curious cause I hear different things all the time.

I know you can't get pregnant AFTER ovulation 'cause you missed it... but what's the deal before ovulation...

Like I'm suppose to ovulate on July 9th, but we had sex on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd.... I know I read something about sperm can only live up to 5 days right?'

so can I get pregnant a week before ovulation or is it only 2 days before?

not officially trying to get pregnant, but it wouldn't be upsetting if we did get pregnant.

I don't know because I didn't try. But I got pregnant while on my period, which is weird.

I got pregnant after my ovulation. Which really made calculating my due date confusing. I was due july 12th by my last period but by ultrasound i am due july 26th.

Well you can't get "pregnant" until you actually ovulate and sperm meets egg. However, sperm can live up to 7 days (as far as I've read), so by the time the 9th rolls around if there are still sperm alive it is possible for you to get pregnant.

When we were trying my fertility doc said the best times to have sex are two days before up until two days after you ovulate. So i guess you probablycould get pregnant after you ovulate....

The two to three days leading up to and including O are the best days for getting pregnant. However, it's possible for sperm to live longer than 72 hours (the typical lifespan of sperm) if the conditions are right, i.e. fertile CM. It's also possible to get pregnant 48 hours after O because it's possible to release more than one egg in a 24-hour period at O. So, this would take into account the lifespan of those two eggs. I know when you chart for BC purposes, six days before O are considered fertile and it's not until the evening of the third higher temp that it is considered "safe" again. Essentially 8-10 days a month are considered "potentially fertile" for the purpose of BC as it is possible to get pregnant from sex on those days, even though the odds of it are pretty small on the far ends of the range.
