Co-Sleepers

posted 4th Jul
I have been discussing a lot of baby things with my mother recently, getting little tips and whatnot from her. Well...I really want to co-sleep, but since my fiancee is gone to the Navy I have gone back to using my old twin bed. So, I really don't think there is room in there for co-sleeping. My mom thinks I should just use the playard next to the bed, but I am considering using a Co-Sleeper. I've heard mixed reviews, and a lot of people say the baby outgrows them quickly. Is it worth the $150 or so? I'm not completely opposed to using the playard next to the bed, but I really want to co-sleep if I can. Anyone have experience with these?!
(Sorry this is so long...)

I am personally against cosleeping for myself. But I think a packnplay with bassinet feature is the best way to go.

In the end, it is totally up to you. Matt and I looked at cosleepers the otherday and they really seemed like a waste of that much money.

If the baby has tall genes, then she will outgrow everything quickly. I vote for the playard. That way she's still just as close, you don't have to shell out another $150 on top of everything else you have to buy for her, and there's no danger of her getting squished.

i know some people who have them and love them, and some people who dont. Is it possible instead of spending a bunch of money on the co-sleeper... to get a bigger mattress instead?

I have a knock off tempurpedic(sp) from walmart (like $250 i think) and i put it on the floor (so she wont fall out)

it works great for us

If I were you I would push the bed up to the wall and face the wall while co sleeping

We have a playard next to our bed for now until she's a few months old. But apparently she'd rather our bed than hers  . If we lay her down for a nap in the playard, she'll wake up. But in our bed, she stays sound asleep. I don't get sleep at nights because I have to hold her to get her to stay asleep. And I don't want to co sleep at night bc who knows what could happen.

And i would just like to point out
that co-sleeping actually reduces SIDS
and of course its important to do it safely and there are ways to do it

I have a bigger mattress, a queen, but it's in storage because I just don't have room for it where I moved to...otherwise I would do that in a heartbeat.

That's a great idea. (Why did I not think of that?!)

I am expecting my fourth and we coslept with two of them, the other two wanted to sleep alone. Each one has different needs. We have an arms reach sleigh cosleeper that holds upt to 500 lbs. It lasts probably until the baby learns to pull themselves up.It is a very nice addition since our daughter still sleeps in our bed! Everyone is different in opinion. We just relaxed and followed what each of our children needed. You'll find out what works best for you and your little one too when the big arrival comes. Good luck to you! Due July 23 with #4 James Lee

I kept my daughter in a sleep positioner next to me, with a rolled up blanket underneath the bedspread to make sure I didn't roll onto her, that was for about a month, then I realized the sleep positioner was more than enough.

I am completely for co-sleeping, it makes life so much easier especially if you're breastfeeding, in our case co-sleeping was just right for us.

My daughter co-slept with me until she was a year old and then she insisted on being transferred to her crib, we had no problems with that at all, I really missed her in my bed though lol so it turned out I was the one who had trouble adjusting. I still sneak her into my bed sometimes.

can you possibly move stuff out of your room to make room for while she is little

that or put your mattress on the floor, or up against the wall

i have co-slept on a twin before

Yeah...do not put the baby between yourself and the wall. Terrible things can happen that way.

I co-slept until my daughter was 8 weeks old. She slept between myself and my DH, except in the very very beginning, when I held her all night and did not really sleep at all. I loved having her there with us, but we all slept a lot better once we moved her to her crib. That might just be because DH's snoring no longer woke her up at night...

When she was a newborn I used her bassinett right beside me, once she got older she slept in the bed with me. (not sure if I did the right thing, she has seperation issues and will not sleep at all unless Im there, But I LOVE HER with me) I do not recommend buying a co-sleeper mine was a waste.
