Traveling advice w/ a one month old

posted 4th Jul
Im driving down to GA with my 1 month old and her daddy. When its feeding time I dont want to have to pull over for her 2 eat cuz sometimes that takes an hr. is it okay to feed her a bottle in her car seat?? I just dont want her to start coughing or spitting up cuz we ould have to get off an exit to burp her. maybe im just worrying too much. maybe she will just sleep most of the time cuz she loves car rides. ANY ADVICE? from experinces?

When are you leaving? I always try to leave for road trips around nighttime, but at a month old, I would think she would sleep most of the way. How far is it? I would nurse her right before you leave and change her right before you leave. That may help.

I would think it's ok, although I wouldn't do it, to feed her in the carseat, but you're still going to have to pull over to burp her and change her.

about 6 hrs. and we would have to leave at 2 when her daddy gets off work. we are trying to go see my dad at the lake because I have to go back to work the 13th and wont get vacation for another year and I havnt been down there in forever. and she does sleep alot in the car.

If it is not too far, let her eat like an hour before you leave until she is completely full and maybe that will make her sleepy enough to sleep the whole way lol. I am not sure about feeding in the carseat, has she had a bottle before? Will you be driving by yourself with her? I think it would be a little hard if she has not had a bottle b4 and you give her one in her carseat..

my LO eats bottles pretty fast (he is usually breast fed I pumped for this trip). We just stopped, Hubby got gas and food, I fed and burped baby and we were back on the road in 30 mins... He is also only 2 weeks old and eating like 3 oz tho.

Burping is the only issue that comes up with that. We always pulled over to feed Kailee. I didnt want to take a chance.

Well I personally would nurse right before and have a bottle as well, in case she wakes up b4 you get there. If you are sitting in the back with her, there should not be a real problem with it at all feeding it to her while she is in her seat. You may get lucky and she may sleep the whole way though lol.

your lucky! when I was breast feeding she would eat for a whole hour and still take a bottle. I dont think she was ever getting enough though. It would be so much easier if we could see how much they were eating when they breastfeed

OH ya def. When he nurses on the boob he could be there all day lol. That's why I pumped for the trip. I don't feel okay about having him out of the car seat while driving and I really don't want to hang out at a gas station all day...

you could pump, and take a bottle with you. And then if she happens to get hungry, feed her and when she gets close to being finished, then take the next exit, burp her, change her, and be back on the road. We travel alot and Paige has been a very good traveller. when she was still young, we just took the time to pull off the road to feed her, but we were never really on a strict schedule. When you have such a little one though, sometimes you really don't have a choice but to be on their schedule.
