The Hospital Stay
posted 4th Jul
For mommies who had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, what was the second day in the hospital light for you- ie 24-48 hours after delivery? What did the nurses do when they checked on you? How often were hospital staff members in an out of the room? How were you feeling? Anything else you can remember would be great.

My hospital's policy is to keep you 48 hours after delivery, and I wanted to sleep in my own bed and wanted to relax at home so I convinced my OB to discharge me after 24 (I had to bring the baby back 2 days later for a check-up though).
But with an uncomplicated delivery you're basically just relaxing, the first 24 hours the nurses come to check out your bleeding and such and take your BP and temp.

It was basically people coming to visit me and the baby. The nurses will press on your belly and ask you how you're feeling... that's all I can remember.
They came in every few hours to check on me.

it was pretty simple. they came in very little to check on me. just would poke their heads in sometimes. asking if i was okay and if i needed anything.

my stay was a day and a half. they let us go early because it was christmas eve, but they really wanted to keep us because i had GBS. when i was still in the delivery room my nurse was HORRIBLE. she put my daughter in the warmer and said she would be back in 20 min. that was at about 3 am. she didnt give me my baby till about 11 that next morning! i still want to hurt her badly for that. THEN we were supposed to be brought to a recovery room at about 8, and didnt get into one until about 2 or so. same nurse.
but the next nurses i had while i was in recovery, they were AWESOME.theycame in about every 2 hours. they all helped me to the bathroom almost every time and everything. they were awesome.

The nurses drove me nuts (granted they were just doing their job). They came in A LOT to check temp, blood pressure, press on my stomach, check bleeding, see how I was feeling, give me medicine, ask if I wanted something (which I was really grateful for cause they kept bringing me water).

they keep you at least 24 hrs, longer if needed. the nurses come in every...3 hours or so for blood pressure, temp, they press on your belly to make sure your uterus is shrinking. they check your bleeding if you want them to...i think thats it.
