Is it too late to be considered PPD?

posted 3rd Jul
I am just shy of 17 months PP, and for the past month or so I've been majorly depressed. I had a bout of managable PPD right after my daughter was born. I didn't require medication, and after a few months it seemed to fade. A few month ago (March-ish), I felt it starting to creep back up again, but it still felt managable, but lately my life has been a shit-storm and I feel like I'm under a veil of some hardcore depression. My self-esteem is low, I've been having chronic headaches and backaches, my appetite is all over the road (goes back and forth between over-eating and not eating at all), and I have no energy to do anything but take care of my daughter. My sex-drive has totally fizzled, and my relationship with my SO is being affected (not soley by the depression, but that's a big part of it).

I guess my question is. Who do I talk to? Can I bring it up with my OB-GYN as PPD? Should I make an appointment with a psychiatrist? Sorry if this seems stupid, but I'm just really lost on where to turn right now. I just need some advice.

Could you possibly be depressed because your hormones are out of whack from TTC? I would bring it up to your OB, you wont know for sure until you talk to someone.

I had a breakdown at 7.5 months. And I went up to the hospital. Turns out I suffer from mild depression, mild bipolar, and mild anxiety. But he told me that it was a little late to be considering PPD. I'd bring it up with your OB. See what they say.

That's a possibilty, I suppose. I don't have a regular doctor, so I was thinking of talking to my OB, and at the very least getting a referral. Thanks!

I don't think it's PPD.

I think it's OTHER things.

It might be depression, but you're going through some stuff right now that is right along w/ this depression.

I hope things work out for you!

I miss you!

yeah, if it just popped up....id say no to PPD.

just about all real PPd (caused by a genuine hormone shift from pregnancy) levels itself back out to normal by 8/9 months post partum. (NOT ALWAYS i may add)
But If you just had things, this far out....start to bother you at the level it does now, id say it isnt PP related.

Still though, PP or not, you know something is wrong, and getting help is your #1 priority!

When I came to recognission that I had PPD-OCD, I called my OB. They took care of it from there!
Even if they physically cannot help you, they will refer you to the correct places.
But id just go to your normal doc and see what they say.

My OB said that post partum depression usually ends around six months. After that you might have another issue.
