I know an Aboriginal family who, basically I can't stand any of them... not because they are Aboriginal but because of how they act (towards me personally... these are people I went to school with)... and because I don't like a majority of that family, I'd probably be viewed as racist. I just put my disliking them down the the fact that they were all raised under the one roof, the same ignorant way.

They are stereotypical Aboriginal people, living off government handouts and feeling sorry for themselves because of something that didn't even happen to THEM personally.They feel like the whole world owes them something.

There is another Aboriginal family who are AWESOME. Very close family friends and the mother is actually my midwife. They are NOTHING like thefirst family I mentioned and I love them. My midwife actually can't even stand them and they are the same race!!!!!! She has worked so hard to get away from that stereotype of "bludging" and she believes that they just make is harder for her and her family as well as themselves, to be treated equally.

I don't know what other people know about our history but Aboriginals were the original people in Australia until the white people invaded... a lot of Aboriginals today feel like they are better than everyone else (especially the first family that I mentioned), they feel as though we all owe them something because of what happened in the past; The Stolen Generation... our white government took their children away from them because they didn't think they were capable of looking after them.

As sad and as wrong as that WAS, I don't believe it should be held against me or my generation, TODAY. I/we didn't do anything to them, I don't see why we are held accountable for the actions of our ancestors.

Does that make me racist?

sure does, b/c that's the same view many white americans have in regards to slavery of eons ago. We didn't enslave black people, so why should we "owe" anyone anything? Our ancestors did something mean and awful, not us.

My ancestors didn't do anything, anyway. Not all whites have ancestors that were in America at that time, and not all whites owned slaves. Which is why it pisses me off that some black people think ALL whites owe them. The part of my family that's been here the longest is the french side, and they've only been here since the late-1800's. After slavery was abolished, and they lived in the North.

Hell not even all blacks here now have family that were slaves.

I don't believe that any race is better than another... but because I think that we don't owe Aboriginal people anything, that makes me racist?

Does it mean that they are racist too, for thinking that everyone owes them something? Does it make them racist for thinking that they are better than everyone else who isn't a part of their race?

Oh, I don't think you're racist!   It's just that your outlook is quite similar to many stateside and we get called a number of things b/c of how we see things.

It's like a perpetual lil kid's attitude of "I'm owed -- you owe me" simply b/c hundreds of years ago slavery was introduced in America.   They conveniently forget that in addition to blacks being slaves, the Chinese and select whites were ALSO slaves IN America!

But if you dare mention racism is coming from a black person in this particular situation, then you are just plain crazy. "How can I be racist when I'm the one being oppressed" (BAH! As if slavery still exists on cotton plantations here)

And I don't think those attitudes necessarily are b/c they think they are better than anyone -- it's just a warped sense of self-entitlement. Although....if anyone mentions that perhaps the Colonials found themselves "entitled" to enslaving people b/c of the Bible, well, yeah that's racist. Confusing, huh?

This is all just my take on matters -- but then again, I'm white. So I must have it all wrong.
