re: Marijuana Using Mothers.

I know plenty of people that have smoked and their kid is perfectly fine, if not smarter than the average. I know pot has nothing to do with making them smart but they had no birth defects what-so-ever. I am 12 weeks pregnant and have continued to smoke here and there due to crazy morning sickness and it seems to be one of the only things that help. It has put a huge gap with me and my boyfriends family but it's my decision. I plan on quitting once I'm further into my second trimester simply because I want my baby to be a healthy weight. But I have never heard of any defects from smoking MJ while pregnant.

Well in nursing school I don't remember ever hearing anything about being tested for weed while a woman was pregnant. I do remember reasonable suspicion for different drugs, but not weed. Honestly unless you come in to the doctors office high as hell [and more than likely it's going to have to be so high that you are not functioning normally] they are not going to test you for something like that. If they drug test you with out your consent or notifying you that is against your rights. I don't see how they could possibly not ask for consent.Maybe they put it in fine print. Even if you deny the testing they can not look at you in different wayor shape. That's pretty offensive to me. You want me to take a drug test you think I would intentionally harm my baby???That would be my first thought. I am sure it would be other womans also. I have never once seen woman tested for drugs while pregnant. Unless she comes in cracked out or something like that. Honestly the THC in weed usually will not harm your baby. Down syndrome is one of the issues they try to link to weed. I don't see that at all, but they try to say smoking can cause it. I have never in all of my days seen anyone with an issue with their babies that has smoked weed. I also have never known anyone who smoked their entire pregnancy. So who knows? I say better safe than sorry and I loved to smoke weed. While pregnant I have not smoked and will not smoke. I would rather know my child is growing and developing with out THC present. It's just a risk im not willing to take. It's not worth it in the end.

Kids of some mothers who did smoke weed while pregnant had depression and anxiety issues later in life. Due to recent studies believe that marijuana will make you happy now, more depressed, paranoid, anxious later in life.
So are we fooling ourselves with telling ourselves these kids are fine?!

Are you fucking kidding me ? You think its okay to do drugs while you are preganant ?? I don`t know maybe its a U.S Thing or something, but over here in Canada, that is NOT okay. It has HUGE affects on your baby when you smoke drugs. I`m a teen mother & I know that. Sorry if I am coming out right in the open & sounding rude, but honestly !!!! I was SHOCKED to see that. My mom is an OB GYN, & she had read this along with me, & she almost shit herself! When you find out you are pregnant, don`t you want to give the best to your baby ? If you can`t stop with the drugs after becoming pregnant & a parent, maybe you shouldn`t have kids.

Maybe do some research. Show one notable source that says marijuana is harmful (when not smoked, smoking anything is of course harmful) to the baby.

Lol im not saying i personally use marijuana while pregnant. I was just interested in some facts about the effects!!!! Some people are all for it, while some arent. Its confusing. But i think ive came to the conclusion that if you do smoke, sometimes things happen and sometimes things dont. But how do we know if its actually the pot that makes the birth defects happen? those things can happen to a mother who doesnt use pot!!!! So maybe it IS okay? Idk!!! But hopefully there will be an official answer someday! Thanks everyone!

Random, but you know in the 40's there was a huge health debate, this was because doctors were saying that breastfeeding was bad for your baby....they are always changing whether things are bad or good for you...who knows....

I know a woman who smoked MJ regularly through her pregnancy. Her baby was healthy, of a normal weight, no defects, etc.

I'm not saying that is textbook - everyone will have different experiences. Also not advocating for this woman. Everyone has to make that call.

I also know a woman who smoked cigs through all four pregnancies, they all turned out fine. The only thing I can say is, they get sick more often that other kids of similar ages. I think that has more to do with secondhand smoke now, than with her smoking during the pregnancies.

Regardless, it's all what you decide to do with your body and your baby.

CIgarettes are different, they are not drugs like pot is. 70 % of pregnant women smoke cigarettes ..... but WEED ?? Thats like saying, oh I smoke crack while im pregnant. ...... Like.. HELLO ?????? I dunno, maybe its a united states thing .... But I have NEVER heard of any pregnant women in Canada saying pot is okay while pregnant.... Seriously ask your doctor, and they`ll probably tell you you are fucked and go to rehab. Thats like so bad for the baby .. Think of what pot does to you, and then you are feeding that shit to your baby inside you. . .Thats like giving your baby drugs and saying here you go hun, have some fun..

I would like to see proof that 70% of pregnant women smoke cigarrettes. That I find to be ridiculous. Do a little research before coming in here and being so judgmental. Pot is no where in the same category as crack either.

Ok with that said think of what is in a cigarette. You are smoking all kinds of nasty shit including shit in rat poison. I would rather someone smoke pot than cigs (if for some reason I had to choose) because most pot (unless laced which is the main issue with weed) is natural and has nothing in it. Cigs are not JUST tobacco.
