Only certain children shows?

re: Only certain children shows?

As far as adult shows, my daughter isn't allowed to watch them. (Especially Family Guy since her dad and I had a blow out fight about it).

It's kind of hard to teach your child the difference between right and wrong, when wrong is made to be comical.

hmm, this is funny to me because I was raised in a pentecostle household..but like my mom would let me watch faces of death when i was very little. I watched nightmare on elmstreet, silence of the lambs, she took me to see the craft in the theatre for my 11th birthday. I watched interview with the vampire, saw the prophecy when it was in theatres too. I knew what was right and wrong, and knew that television wasnt real...i learned that the first time I tried to use my umbrella to fly like mary poppins. I think its up to the parents to choose, as we know our children better than any other person including people on a forum (pfft)

my daughters arent that interested in anything but barney and elmo(my 9 month old doesnt even care to look at the tv yet)

but i let my 6 year old watch beowulf in the theatres with us, hes seen all of the lord of the rings, and monty python and the holy grail(its one of his faves) I know my kid knows he cant fight the balrog ...or the trees cant talk...i'll even try to make up stuff, and he'll tell me..."thats not real"
hes got a better grasp on reality than i do.

see, i see no problem in letting a kid watch noneducational things. i believe that life is often times WORSE than what my kids will ever watch. mind you, i will always try and work withing their limits. they can't possibly understand a quater of what i watch, so they won't be watching those till thier able to grasp most of it.
horror films, i don't know.... i still can't hear pink flyod's the wall without wanting to scream and hide. my mom had me watch the movie when i was little. never got over it..... but when they saw they want to watch something scary with me, i'll first pick out the lamest scary to give them a shot.
but again, everyone is different, so logically every child is different. and only a true parent can understand what THEIR child needs, and what they can handle.
i personally would not have a 5 year old watch a r sex movie, but then i don't understand the child or their parents.

a parent letting television teach their children what's right from wrong instead of doing it themselves is irresponsible IMO.

i agree with the nightmares and such.... i won't let my kids watch things that will leave them with questions that they cannot ask because they aren't verbal enough yet. but, that's my SIL letting her 4-7 year olds watch that stuff, not me.

I used to watch family guy 24/7 when Chloe was too young to even notice the tv is on..but now that she is older i don't feel comfortable having that on plus i'm sick of it myself.

I don't like her to watch Fairly Oddparents because it's too violent IMO..
Sometimes if Spongebob is being violent i will change it.
She is allowed to watch everything on Noggin for kids or whatever you call it..the one where they say it's like preschool on tv.

I've taught my children anything and everything they know. A parent who allows their 2 or 3 year old to watch such violence, sex, and language that is in an R rated movie really needs some sort of parenting class. It is the children like that who end up having issues as teens IMO.

Every parent should do what THEY feel is best for THEIR child. If what someone else is doing with THEIR child do not do it with YOUR child. It's a pretty simple concept & really easy actually. You don't like your kids watching that stuff, don't let them. But don't call someone a bad parent because they have a different parenting style. There are plenty of things on here that I have seen you say but I still respect your choices that you make with your children. Mainly because it doesn't have a damn thing to do with my kids & how I plan on raising them.

I didn't see anyone say bad parent. I said someone would need parenting classes. Anyone who would plop their 3 year old down in front of lets say Freddy Kruger or Knocked up, probably needs some advice on how to raise thier child.
