Autism and seizures

My son's teacher thought she saw him having some absent seizures at school.

He is autistic, fairly high-functioning, looking up what I could find about them, I think he has been having them for a long long time. We are now waiting for an appt with a pediatric neurologist to get a better handle on how often he is having them, and if he is having them for sure. He is only 4 years old- just wondering if any other mommas went through this- what all will they do to test him?

They can do MRi's or hook him up to machines for a certain amount of time and monitor his brain function. Seizures will show up on the screen if they are present.

My nephew is autistic. He just turned 7. When I worked at the day care center, we had a few autistic children as well. It's not uncommon for autistic children to stare at something. (not saying your child isn't having a seizure though) But I have never been informed of this. Of the handful of children I have a close relationships with, none have had a seizure diagnosis, so I am now knowledgeable on this. Hope you can get answers....

They also thought my son was having seizures when he was little. They did some tests and all they could assure us is that during the test he didnt have a seizure, It is common though in autism for a seizure disorder to be present. The absence type seizures still appear to happen if that is what they are. But they arent affecting him enough to do further testing.
