Bone Marrow Transplant?

posted 2nd Jul
Has anyone had this done? Is it a major or minor surgery? Painful?
My husband is in the Navy and told me that if he chooses to do this, he will get vacation for 5 days with his family (us!) to Washington DC.
Is it even worth it?
He wants me to find out more info about it... so I thought I'd ask you all first

Very painful from what my friend says. They cut your bone open. or they did him, anyway. He said the healing time was a while too. If I wasn't anemic I would donate anything I could regardless of pain. O- blood type is universal donor.

Same with my hubby. He would do it in a heartbeat but he wants to know if it's real painful or not? He also is type O blood!

it can be extremely painful, BUT it could save someones life.
My neice is in remission from leukemia (she's 3) and had her treatments not worked as well as they did, doing abone marrow transplant was next on the list.

Not as bad as some are going to tell you. Some say its like childbirth I didn't think it was that bad. You are sore for a short time after its a weird pain but they do give you plenty of recovering pain killers. Plus you can save a life!!!

That's all my hubby cares about and if it's life threatening to him at all   and too painful like that you can't handle it!

I thought it just a minor surgery. I have also heard it very painful. Is your husband needing the surgery? My husband said if he needs the surgery for a reason they will kick you out of the military. He said if he donating it they probably will let him go home for a few days but not until he finished with boot camp & sometimes they don't let you take leave from A school unless it a holiday, emergency & you have to build up leave.

I've also been wondering if it's painful. A few months ago I got a call that I matched someone and they wanted me to donate but I was preggers at the time. Now that I've had my LO I'm just waitng for them to call me back.

I really want to do this too. I thought it was only minor surgery... I've heard it's painful but I'm sure it depends on pain tolerance.
