re: BC,IUD,DEPO,PERIOD,PREGGO?

I was on depo for a long time! I didnt have my periods on it but I gained a ton of weight on it. I went from 160-223 in less than 6 months! The only thing I liked about being on depo was not having my period which can be dangerous in itself!

Sounds like he has a personal thing against mirena, like that crazy nurse last year who went around ripping them out of women.

no, not really. mirena can be kind of dangerous. most iud can be dangerous. and i def. think 16 is too young for 1.


also, i hate depo. i took it for 9 months, and had my period every single day of those 9 months, and since coming off of it i have had irregular periods, and been diagnosed with PCOS.

I don;t know why your Dr wouldn't give you an IUD. Age and only 1 child has nothing to do with it. You have to have a chld to get an IUD

I was on Depo for years. I loved it! I didn't realize that I didn't need it but still while I was on it, I didnt have a period. No mood swings, no bloatingand no water retention. My only draw back on it was that as soon as I got off, it took me a little longer than a year to get a regular cycle.

There is NO chance to get pregnant on the depo shot if you are on time with your shots and if your dosage is calculated correctly. As with any BC it can take a month or more for your body to adjust to it and become fule effective. You can use a foaming spermacide in the meantime.

Well I am 20 and will be 20 when I will be put back on BC and my dr says anything I want I can have besides getting my tubes tied....but then again he knows that when I got preggo with this one I was on a pill so maybe thats why he is giving me a choice, but I am choosing the implanon...

Depo is not proven to cause PCOS. It can take a while for your cycle to straighten back out. it took me over a year. I wish you luck

The last part is a great point. With any birth control I started, even Mirena, I always use condoms for the first month because not all bodies adjust to the BC right away.

I know its not proven to cause PCOS. I have been off of it for 5 years. It completely messed up my body, and I know there is a link between the two, they just havent found it yet. Depo and Ortha-Evra haven't really been around long enough to know about all the complications that come with it. I know a lot of girls loved Depo, but then again I know a lot of girls that hated it. I've done a lot of research on birth control, and wrote a paper about it in college. I found so many girls that had no problems whatsoever, went on depo, then came off and that is when all their PCOS symptoms started.

I never gained a pound on it.

Also, not having a period is NOT dangerous. lol

I am 30. I was on depo 14 years ago. LOL It has been around for a while. It wasn't new when I got on it either.

It does take time for your body to return after any birth control. Birth control is basically chemically telling your body that you are pregnant. After you have a baby it takes a while for the body to get back to "normal" there as well.

I think anytime you introduce something to your body that isnt natural to the body you will run the risk of a less than desireable side effect.

umm not really all the time. me and my hubby didnt use any protection and he would go in me.
