Birthplan

posted 26th Jun '07
I was just curious how many of you are going to write a birth plan. For those of you who have in the past, was it beneficial for you? If not, do you wish you had?

I have one but I decided to just go with the wind. And take the labor as it comes. I think it might be more fun that way lol.

I tend to be a bit OCD and I'm to the point that I don't know if its really worth the effort to create one, or if this is just my own little way of trying to control a situation that really I can't.

I didn't have one with my son. Infact when the doc asked me about it this time I didn't really know what she was talking about
My doc gave me a piece of paper where you check off the options that you want to do during delivery (pain medication, limiting guests, etc.) and I filled that out but I told her I didn't want anything set in stone. I would rather make decisions on how I feel when Im actually in labor

I made one, and just gave it to my doc yesterday. She said that everything looked good and she would work with whatever I wanted, but since there's 7 doctors in the group she may not be the one to deliver me and the other docs probably wouldn't be as open to the things I wanted. I told her that since she said it was ok, then they would have to deal with it!

I wasn't able to, my daughter was born at 27 weeks emergency c-section.. then I had a miscarriage August 20th 2006. I am having a c-section this time around and yes!, I do have a birth plan, and I wish I would have with my first!

I think its a good thing to have espically if you have more than one Dr. If you're unsure about meds just leave is somewhat empty. In my last one I put specifics about no bottle feeding and no eye drops. The nurses read it and followed what I wanted.

I'm only 8 weeks, but I'm in the process of making one now. I know exactly what I want (quiet and drugs!), so it's easy to do. I think it's a great idea so that your doctors and nurses (or midwives) know how you want your baby to come into the world.

Most things that I wanted were pretty typical but I wanted to make sure they were followed such as my hubby cutting the cord (he didn't get to last time) and not putting the ointmnt in her ees right away...etc.

How many weeks will you be when you have your baby?

I know that they put the ointment in there eyes and stuff when they are born but why would you not want them to do it?? I dont know anything about it so I am just wondering?

I wrote one because I have some very controversial demands. I think you should at least write one for the cutting the cord or anything else you really really want to happen especially if it's against procedure. My requests go against the hospital's normal routine, but I am delivering at a birth center... I wrote mine in case I get transferred.

They give the ointment to make sure the baby doesn't get an eye infection or something. I don't remember which one specifically but its for if the mom has an std, ghonorrhea or chlymidia (sp) or something. If you tested clean and you know that both you and your partner are faithful its not necessary.

I wrote one. It even had conditions in case I had to be induced (which I was) or had to have a c-section (which I did). It was very helpfull. It was in my file when I had to go to the hosptial and all my wishes were carried out to my likeing. I wanted to be sure my son wasn't given a bottle or pacifire in case I couldn't tell them (which I couldn't b/c I was out cold) and all other procedures I wanted. It was nice to have one because I at least had an idea of how things would go in an emergency situation and felt that I was somewhat in controll of what was going on.
