Quoting ezzyjane24: My husband also wanted me to ask you if your SO has told his recruiter that he is engaged with a baby on the way?
Quoting sarcasm: nope we plan on talking to one in October (okay my SO is turning 18 on the last day of september and ... [snip!] ... house settled..) why would that be a problem??..would having a kid and being engaged hurt any chance of well anything for him?No, it's just that your SO has to be very up front and honest about things like that. For instance, if and when he talks to a recruiter, if he were to leave out the fact that he is getting married and he has a baby on the way, and they find out that he didn't tell them, he can get kicked out. Just make sure that is one of the things you tell the recruiter and as far as the other questions, like the type of job he will get and such. He will have to speak with the recruiter. Everything is based on how high his asvab scores are, the physicals he will receive, his criminal record, if any, and the availability of the job that he wants. As far as medical insurance goes, you will have to be married in order to receive it. Also as far as his enlistment bonus goes, my husband said that it is usually given as a lump sum at the end of his training.
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: No, it's just that your SO has to be very up front and honest about things like that. For instance, if ... [snip!] ... Also as far as his enlistment bonus goes, my husband said that it is usually given as a lump sum at the end of his training.
Quoting sarcasm: whooh okay!..so just be up front...we'll have to do that after he's 18 his parents hate me and they don't even know we're still dating let alone have a baby on the way...Yikes! Good luck with that. Although sometimes a baby can make all the difference to future in-laws. It might just take a little while to get used to the idea.
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: Yikes! Good luck with that. Although sometimes a baby can make all the difference to future in-laws. It might just take a little while to get used to the idea.
Quoting sarcasm: yeah he wants to tell them on his birthday but I was like "with your dads abusive track record and your ... [snip!] ... to get here to tell them"..like I'm just scared for my baby and they think I was with him to get pregnant and go on welfare!!..
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: Oohh, I'm sorry. That's gotta be a tough situation, but look at it this way. Once they know, if they ... [snip!] ... you can take comfort in the fact that once he gets his orders...you can be thousands of miles away from them and their crap..
Quoting sarcasm: YAY!!...I know I just want to be far away from those people..like I just want to start my family and ... [snip!] ... doesn't mean blood..like its how you love them and how they love you and they aren't family and they will never be family!Well, there you go.
Quoting sarcasm: so hes better off just signing up in June or close to June?Yeah. I signed up... oh gee... it's been a while.... End of Feb 02 and left for Boot Camp in Nov 02. So yeah, the DEP program is only 9 months... I remember my recruiter telling me that I was riding a thin line on how long I was in. (my rate had a long wait list for the A school so it worked for ME, but that was 7 years ago) But if you're also talking about sign up bonuses.... You wont see that until he's been in for a year.
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: Uh,, I'm sorry but that's not true. You can be in the DEP program for over a year
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: Yes he can. When he finishes his basic training for the job position, he will get his bonus.
Quoting B Hole: Again no. He has to be in a year. I had to wait a year before I could get my bonus.I'm sorry, I wouldn't be saying what I was saying if I didn't know. My husband is a recruiter so this kinda thing is his 'bread and butter' so to speak. Not everyone has to wait a year to get their sign-up bonus and yes it is very possible that the 'rules have changed' in the DEP since you got in.I believe he said that the regulation time limit is about 450 days now. He has DEPers now that have been in the program for over a year.....
Quoting Benny-Boo's Mama: I'm sorry, I wouldn't be saying what I was saying if I didn't know. My husband is a recruiter so this ... [snip!] ... said that the regulation time limit is about 450 days now. He has DEPers now that have been in the program for over a year.....Like I said, unless it has changed... Because my recruiter told me in 02 that I was walking a thin line on how long I was in the DEP program
Quoting B Hole: Like I said, unless it has changed... Because my recruiter told me in 02 that I was walking a thin line on how long I was in the DEP programYeah, I believe it's changed since then. The official Navy website doesn't tell you much but I think I found a link (it's very broad, it says up to a year, but in reality it's about 450 days..) hold on let me get the link. http://www.navy.com/about/before/dep/
