do we stare at you when you eat??!!

posted 1st Jul
So i have a question to all the moms of more than one or anyone who has already broached this subject with their older child:

I will be breastfeeding baby, which to me is totally natural. However, I have noticed that my daughter likes to stop and stare at women who are breastfeeding in public, even when they are covered up. I have tried to explain to her that those mommies are just feeding their babies, and that is how I will feed our baby, and that she would not like it if someone stared at her while she was eating, but it's not getting through.

How can I discuss this topic with a 4-year old so that she will stop staring at these women as they feed their children, and so that she will not sit all day and stare at me while I feed her sibling?

I think she will get used to it once your baby is here and she is seeing it all the time.

She was breastfed.

I dunno, it just feels creepy for her to literally stop and stare at random women breastfeeding... and I know it will fill more creepy when she does it to me...

I would just explain that that is how you feed the baby, that milk is made for the baby and that is how it gets the milk. I breastfeed in front of my two oldest daughters and it bothered them until I explained everything. It took about a week and it became second nature to them. They were 4 and 2 at the time.

Ahhh, she's only four...just curious probably, especially since she's been told that's going to be going on in her house soon. She see mommy with boobies, and all the other women with boobies...she's probably wondering and curious about what they are for. I think it's completely normal and nothing to be upset or weirded about, that could bring a negative light to it that you don't want. IMO, she isn't doing anything wrong. Just tell her not to stare at people, not to not stare at breastfeeders because then she may think that it's something naughty or bad (even though you've told her it's for feeding). I just think she'll sense your worry, and misconstrue that as being something negative and it isn't. I'm sure once your baby gets here and you do it for a month or so and she gets used to seeing you do it for a while, she'll stop more than likely.

Almost all of my friends kids have tried to get a great view while I am bfeeding and I just say, careful or you will get milk in your eye, lol.I really do though and it has happened twice with two of my friends kids, lol.I would just tell her that although it is completely natural you wouldn't want anyone looking at her private parts just like the Mother would rather not have others stare at her private parts. If she is listening well,go on to say that it also distracts the baby and then the baby will cry(that is why my friends kids got a milky eye, because my babies got distracted pulled off and milk sprayed everywhere).
