I've heard of all those bands/singers whatever you want to call it. I used to listen to them back in 7th grade.
You wanna name yer kid after a band called Scarling? Well, I guess it's better than Jack Off Jill. I assume since you know of Scarling, you know of Jessickas first band, Jack Off Jill. Which was much much better.

<sigh> ok... so I might get some guff from this one... but my name is Devon and I've never really liked it. No one made fun of me because of my name though... probably one of the only things people never made fun of me for... weird considering my whole name was Devon Wannemacher... (dev-in wanna-make-her)... People are always commenting on how they know a Devon (always a boy.. and usually black... not that it matters, i'm a caucasian female).. but it's annoying becuase does anyone get stopped by the grocery cashier who, after seeing your drivers lisence feels compelled to tell you that he knew a Devon in high-school. How do you respond to that... "um.. yeah. neat... thanks". I know it's supposed to be unique and everything but growing up I always longed for a "normal" name. Even now, as a 26 year old, i'm sort of apathetic towards it. Don't like it, don't hate it exactly. I must say I slightly agree with ash because names DO need to be chosen with careful thought but you can't always predict who you child will be when he/she comes out a beautiful wrinkly red little disaster, just like every other baby.
Every kid gets teased but not always because of their name.
No matter how unique you think your name is, there will more than likely be a huge number of babies born that same year whose parents have your exact enthusiasm for uniqueness (and your exact name).
And naming is the easy part.... save your brain power for when baby actually comes. You'll need it if you want to remember what you actually ended up calling him after a year of no sleep. happy naming.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant with a little girl and we are going to name her Victoria Elizabeth. I think it's pretty and not too many people are naming babies that lately. What do ya'll think about that name?

My cousin named her daughter Victoria and everyone calls her Tori. Its a beautiful name both the long and short version of it, I think. You have made a nice choice!

this subject is my forte. however a little hard to explain but ill try.
first thing Allow All Three (or Four) Names to Flow
it is not necessary to have the name to become the next challenging tongue twister
EX: Samantha Elizabeth, Kelly Kathleen
second: Avoid Connecting Letters
if the first name ends in the "L" sound, the middle name should not begin with the "L" sound. Same with middle and last names.
EX: Janelle Louise Smith, Travis Scott Thomas
third: If it was your name, would you want it?
dont give the baby a name that would get him/her teased
EX: "no examples for running the risk of insulting anyone. this one is pretty self explanatory anyways"
Those are pretty much the only ones that i can think of that i dont believe have been covered so far... but then again i didnt get a chance to read through them all. anyways i hope this helps[/b]

Even before I became pregnant my partner and I had sort of picked out names.
If a girl he is more than happy with my suggestion and if a boy we only agreed on a first name however now i am 16 weeks pregnant and he has turned around and said if its a boy he wants the name spelt different to what we agreed. He says its the way we say it but I just think of his suggestion and wonder how he can possibly think that.
It was all going so well to begin with but now... lets get ready to rumble

okay...i think that if you like the name, and you think your baby will like the name..then use it. who cares what anyone else thinks!!
my boyfriends name is Jacob Lee and mine is Pamela Jayelynn
so if we have a little girl we are combining our middle names and naming her Jaylee Tiara. and if we have a boy we are name him Jayden Russell. Once again, we took part of JAcobs name and Russell...well that was never a name i really liked, and it's not a very common one..but that was jacob's dads name(who passed a way quite a while ago)...
our second choices are skyler james, and skylar isabella. skyler/skylar isnt a common name. it was my best friends name growing up(he passed away also) and I love it! James is common, but cute. and isabella is very feminine, and still cute.
we love the names we have chosen, and if you don't...then don't name your child that..haha...I don't think there should even be an argument about this! name your baby what you want to

I agree with the original post for the most part.
However the person who mentioned giving a girl the name Jordann as being too masculine I don't agree with. I have known equal girls and boys with the name Jordan. To me it is a unisex name that doesn't hold any conoctations to it either way...be it feminine or masculine. One of my daycare children years ago was a girl named Jordan and my stepdaughter's name is Jordan. However, my hairdresser's son was named Jordan and my daughter has a friend in class, a boy, named Jordan. All spelled the same way too.
Personally, I don't care for unisex names but that's just it..they are unisex so I don't think they swing one way or another in the gender dept.

I agree with the girl who said some of the African American names are rediculous and I, unlike the girl who first stated it, could care less who I offend. If you don't want to give your child a fighting chance at a serious career, then don't set them for failure. No one is going to want Dr. LaToya LaFonza ShaNayNah operating on them weither you would like to believe it or not. Sorry. That's the way it is. I'm not one to judge, but it happens in the world. I know because I am pierced, tattooed in visable places, and dress like no one I've ever met. And do you know where I work? One of the only places I can find a job: Spencer's.

OK JUST A QUICK COMMENT
I dont get why all these gils are saying African amarican names are so out there it has nothing to do with that, its the GETTO NAMES that are out there, there are alot of African names that are really nice different but nice, these GETTO names are what dont work I don't know any body named LayToya Lafonza ShaNana quoting last post and if there was its so Getto!!! not African amaircan---- whats wrog with Laytoya I like that name. I just don't get it some people are ignorant, I know some white girls with some GETTO names!!!!! so I think people on here need to check themselvs with that racise talk because it's not nice. (Sorry about the Spelling)

So what she said about black names was a bit offensive, but I know TONS of people (black and not) who do agree with her.
I'm black, and I do. My dad's middle name is LeVonne, and she named me after him (LaVonna). Everyone says it's a pretty name, but I'm tired of no-one being able to pronounce or spell it.
--------------------------------------------------------------
On a completely different note, I don't like Ryelie. It DOES remind me of rye bread.I like Ryli much better, or Rylie.
LaVonna
