nope. bonding time is optional, not necessary and unless you have PTO to cover your time away from work, most places don't pay you past the required amount of maternity leave. (most places are 6-8weeks max)

The only thing it guarantees depending on state and how long you've been at your job is that you have a job waiting on you when you get back.

Any other maternity leave type stuff is dependent on your company policies...

In california, I'm pretty sure you have to have been at your job for a year for FMLA to apply to you.

im canadian. we just get a year paid mat leave.. i didnt get it at first.. woops!

Most employers do not have to pay you for your maternity leave but they are required to give you the time off and hold your job.

That's nationally. You must also have worked 1250 hours.

I used to be a manager in HR for citibank.

FMLA is federal protection from losing your job. It's a max of 12 weeks in a rolling calander. It does not pay you in any way but, your job cannot fire you while on FMLA. You have to work for a company for a min of 1 year and 1280 hours to qualify. Paid time off is what will pay your salary while you are out. IF you choose to take more than 12 hours your company can legally replace you.
