Why??

posted 30th Jun
Why are parents so quick to turn there kids to Forward Facing??

I have seen so many people turn their kids just because they meet the state required, 1 year and over 20 lbs..

Brennan is 18 months, almost 29 lbs, and is 33 inches tall and still Rear Facing..

To me, I believe the pros of rear facing outweigh the pros of forward facing.

It just irritates me to see these kids turned so soon.

/end soapbox.

Jay's 18 months and still RF.

But because she's only 19 lbs and she has to be 24 to FF.

My son is FF at the moment, but when I get my license and my own car, I think I'm going to have him RF until I feel completely comfortable driving with him. But then again, my son is almsot at the limit of RF in his car seats anyway, which is 35lbs. He's about 32lbs.

Maybe I will sound stupid asking this, but are there car seats designed for rear facing when they outgrow the infant carrier? My friend just gave me 2 car seats for the next level up. I asked her if the seats were only forwards facing and she said yes. I hate to buy a new rear facing car seat since these were a gift (or gently used hand-me-down).

lol. I didn't realize. Docs never said anything. But I guess compared to your kids, he is

But I've got height on my side of the family... I'm 5'10"and the hubster is only 6'1" but my dad's 6'5" and his brother is 6'7"

Mel I know you're tall, how tall is your man?

That's the plan here - to RF as long as possible.

thank you!! my husband and i are having an ongoing argument on extended rear facing my daughter (she's only 11 mos now) i told him when he shows me 5 SAFETY reasons on why she should be FF then we will do it, I have a feeling I'm going to win this one . I wish people would educate themselves more on it. My friend had her daughter FF at 5 months

Sadly, I suck.
Logan was RF up until about 16 months, then I took my first road trip to California ALONE with Logan. It woulda been to hard to reach over his carseat and get his pootie(paci) or give him snacks or his drink. The husband never turned it around when I got back home, and that was a month ago.
I have a friend who turned her kid around before 1 because he "was of weight" and another who did it at a year.
But, I suck. I did it for convience for me on a roadtrip. but at least im honest!
